Today I’m going to share with you a recipe that I just found and sampled yesterday at Art of the Table. Art of the Table is a local food specialty shop in West Michigan, and they had some products from Beanilla that they were sampling so, of course I had to go check it out (I never pass up free tastings!).
This is the owner of Beanilla, and I was excited to sample these brownies, which featured vanilla salt! For some reason I’ve been reading a lot about using salt in desserts, and I have to say – it adds a depth of flavor that is amazing. Salty, sweet, now you don’t have to choose!
The Recipe for One Bowl Brownies
Ingredients:
- 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
- 3/4 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 1/2 cup caramels (chopped)
- Vanilla sea salt
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350F.
- Microwave chocolate and butter in large microwaveable bowl on high for two minutes or until butter is melted.
- Stir until chocolate is completely melted and then stir sugar into chocolate.
- Mix in eggs and vanilla until well blended.
- Stir in flour and nuts.
- Spread in a greased 9×13 pan.
- Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick in center comes out with fudgy crumbs.
- Immediately drizzle the pan with the chopped caramels.
- Allow to cool in pan for a bit and then sprinkle with the vanilla sea salt.
Shortcut: Use a boxed brownie mix, and use the sea salt and caramel to add a special touch.
Longcut: Make your own caramel (here’s an excellent tutorial by David Lebovitz) and/or vanilla sea salt (just mix 1/4 C of sea salt with the seeds from one vanilla bean and let it sit at room temperature).
My boys love brownies and I was intrigued by the caramel for them but will have to look into the vanilla sea salt for me… 🙂
I would have to stay far, far away from these. Sinful!
I’ve always loved that sweet and salty combo, like in kettlecorn. This recipe sounds awesome!
Oh boy. I think I much just have to run to the store RIGHT THIS VERY SECOND for ingredients! yummy!
They look deeeeeeeevine!!!!
Cindy – yes, Art of the Table is the best! A bit pricey, so I keep an eye out for the free samples and specials 🙂
Hmmmm….chocolate….my 1st love (not counting wine, of course!)….caramel….a close second….,salt….=YUMMO!
I will have to try these!
Isn’t Art of the Table the best?
Welcome! These look yummy!
Thank you so much for the warm welcome! And yes, while I like the IDEA of making everything from scratch, sometimes a girl’s got to just do the best she can.
I love sweet and salty together so I’m sure these would be delicious! I like the shortcut for using a box mix too since I tend to be a half-homemade kind of cook.
Welcome to Our Krazy Kitchen Krew Wendy!
It’s nice to meet you and welcome! These brownies look awesome. I have been getting into using a lot of finishing salts lately and I have tried some salted chocolate. I love it, I think that’s why I always liked the chocolate pretzels.
My family is in west Michigan. I always have to bring back a few items that they have there and we can’t get here in Florida!
thank you so much! I’m glad to be able to meet new online friends 😀
These look amazing Wendy. One of my family’s favorite holiday treats is Salted Chocolate so I can imagine how salt would be awesome in brownies. Welcome to the team! 🙂
