This week is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous with sunny mid 60’s to 70’s days after today’s rain is over. But, this is the Pacific North West and that could change by tomorrow 😀

There is so much going on around here and with family, but some of it I’m still processing.

On the Eagles front I was put in charge of a committee for an auxiliary event (the Ducks against the Beavers college game aka THE CIVIL WAR and it’s taken VERY serious around here) on the day after Thanksgiving and I love my committee members and what we are planning.

BUT, yet “that” woman started yesterday in trying to micromanage it all. :SIGH: Just when you think it’s safe to be positive again… Fortunately, I have a wonderful crew and we have a fun menu planned along with games and snacks.

Hot water and peach yogurt 😀 YUMMY insert sarcasm here

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I have a couple loads of laundry to do, but am pretty well caught up otherwise.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS Just a few groceries this week for here, but I am filling in for another woman on Tuesday at the Eagles and need to pick up some things for that meal.
  • PAPERWORK, PHONE CALLS, PROJECTS & TRAVELS I made great strides over the weekend on this category. I’m also almost caught up with my backlog of recipes that will catch me up on BLOG 365. I’ve been working on BLOGMAS 2023 and I’m also working on a new look for Happy Homemaker Monday in 2024. I’ve also been putting together a list of recipes to make for a Charcuterie Board contest on New Year’s Eve – I’ve signed up for a dessert board.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING Menu is done through this week, but I need to start thinking about November also

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • We’re finishing up the LARAMIE binge watching. We’ve also started season 2 of Shining Vale. I need to finish catching up on When Calls the Heart and Halloween cooking shows.

I’m finishing Heather Webber’s At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities and will be moving on to UnderTow by Jana DeLeon

Hubby and I took a play day on Saturday and did some antiquing, picked up a special order and had a yummy dinner out. One of the places we stopped at was 5th St. market and they have a really neat truck that they decorate for the seasons.

There was a fun coffee house that did this fun display for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The sprinklers have been off for a few weeks now, but yet the mushrooms grow.

We had a pretty weekend, but it’s finally time for FALL to really kick in around here. I FINALLY get a chance to wear my new flannels this week.

I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to get around to visiting much last week. Things came up that had to be dealt with and then my car ended up in the shop… well you know how those weeks go. This week is starting off a bit busy, but should settle down well by midweek.

I’m looking forward to the rainy days this week and being able to catch up on some book work and blog posts as well as lots of visiting with you all. 😀

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I finally got all the bed linens freshly laundered and changed over for fall.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS Hubby has a POWER RED blood donation appointment that I’ll drop him off for and I’ll get gas and a few groceries while he’s there. We’re hoping to pick up my car after that if it’s ready. We had taken it in last Thursday, but they couldn’t finish it before the weekend. I also have an Eagles meeting tomorrow night.
  • PAPERWORK, PHONE CALLS, PROJECTS & TRAVELS I was able to get quite a bit accomplished over the weekend and will continue working on it during our rainy days this week.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING I’ve been revising my menu plans a bit as the weather is cooling down and my flavor palette has changed accordingly.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • Since there’s no real fall line-up yet, we’re binge watching old series shows we’ve never seen before and I’m catching up on Hallmark movies and cooking shows. We did watch a couple episodes of NBC’s new show IRRATIONAL and am liking it.

I’m still only about half way through Heather Webber’s At The Coffee Shop of Curiosities.

The weather has been absolutely glorious lately. this week is supposed to be in the 60’s and then the 80’s for 2 days before dropping back into the 60’s. Night time lows are in the low 40’s so all is good by me.

This is a confusing category for me these days. SO much on my mind – much of which I have spilled out on the past few previous Mondays, but also some I’m just not sure about yet…

A couple of sips of coffee and a yogurt.

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I’m pretty up to date on most things.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I finally did a major grocery run and got caught up on errands. I do have a pedicure this week and a couple small errands I’ll do on that same day while I’m in town.
  • PAPERWORK, PHONE CALLS, PROJECTS & TRAVELS No travels planned, but a few Eagles projects crept up yesterday that require work today :SIGH: it’s a never ending list there. I got through a bit of paperwork and will finish the rest later this week. I do have an after event meeting today for the Eagle’s conference so we’ll see how that goes.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING Menu is planned through the end of the month and in flux after that.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • We’ve been watching old Laramie reruns. I’d never even heard of it before 😀 We’re caught up on football and Nascar and most old cooking shows, but I need to catch up on holiday (Halloween) shows.

I’m about half way through Heather Webber’s At The Coffee Shop of Curiosities.

Please don’t shoot the messenger, but it’s 91 days until Christmas.

Now that fall is officially here, the weather has cooled down significantly and now that October is upon us my thoughts have turned to the holidays. I’m beginning to plan my BLOGMAS 2023 posts and a couple friends and I are even planning the menu for our New Years Party 😀

RAIN! GLORIOUS RAIN! We are over 9 inches behind our yearly average and in MUCH need of this strange wet stuff. It FINALLY started raining yesterday and I couldn’t be happier! The temperature also dropped to the low to mid 60’s for a high and lows are in the high 40’s.

The South West Conference is over! I couldn’t be happier about that for sure! The building was beautiful and welcoming. The planned entertainment was a great success and I hear the food was good. Our bartenders were on fire and worked their rock star butts off!

Many of the things that have been so stressful regarding the Eagles I have decided to just put in God’s hands and let them play out amongst the other members. I believe that the woman “in charge” that is such a nightmare is truly showing her true colors and those that were previously unaware are FINALLY becoming aware which is a good thing as it will be shouldered and decided as a group from here on out. Unfortunately, she is being fueled by a couple others within our city and another that are also self appointed dictators aka low level know it alls with loud voices who aren’t afraid to use them even when they are in the wrong. 🙁

I have high hopes that life will be better from here on out, but either way my duties will return to only those things I choose to be involved with and most of those are for the good of the WHOLE lodge so I don’t need to interact with her. 😀

I’m doing a little bit of theraflu and a yogurt this morning. Not because I’m ill, but after being around so many people this weekend I’m considering it precautionary with the change in weather also.

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I was able to get caught up on the laundry yesterday afternoon and will begin a deep clean for the change of seasons.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I’m excited to get caught up with EVERY aspect of a NORMAL routine 😀 I’ll do the majority of this category on Friday.
  • PAPERWORK, PHONE CALLS, PROJECTS & TRAVELS Thursday is the day I will tackle this mess 😀
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING Menus are planned through October and I don’t anticipate many if any changes to it.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
All the strikes and lack of a good fall line-up is keeping us binge watching some other shows and catching up on the Food Network. I’m enjoying the fall baking and Halloween shows. I’m also catching up on BBQ Brawl.

I’m reading Heather Webber’s latest book, At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities

A mysterious letter. An offer taken. And the chance to move forward.

When Ava Harrison receives a letter containing an unusual job listing one month after the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend, she thinks she’s being haunted. The listing—a job as a live-in caretaker for a peculiar old man and his cranky cat in Driftwood, Alabama—is the perfect chance to start a new life. A normal life. Ava has always been too fearful to even travel, so no one’s more surprised than she is when she throws caution to the wind and drives to the distant beachside town.

On the surface, Maggie Mae Brightwell is a bundle of energy as she runs Magpie’s, Driftwood’s coffee and curiosity shop, where there’s magic to be found in pairing the old with the new. But lurking under her cheerful exterior is a painful truth—keeping busy is the best way to distract herself from the lingering loss of her mama and her worries about her aging father. No one knows better than she does that you can’t pour from an empty cup, but holding on to the past is the only thing keeping the hope alive that her mama will return home one day.

Ava and Maggie soon find they’re kindred spirits, as they’re both haunted—not by spirits, but by regret. Both must learn to let go of the past to move on—because sometimes the waves of change bring you to the place where you most belong.

Carrie, I updated the South West Chicken Salad finally 😀

HAPPY HOMEMAKER MONDAY with MENU PLANS week 38 of 2023 ~ BLOG 365.261

We officially move into my favorite season of the year next Sunday, and I for one, CANNOT wait for it to be even chillier in the mornings and evenings, wearing hoodies and UGGs, drinking hot tea of an evening, maybe eating some popcorn and a movie while curled up with a cozy blanket and/or a book :SIGH: I’m about to be in heaven 😀

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

YAY! By this time next week we are supposed to be back into our normal rain and fall situation!!! This makes me VERY happy. This week is supposed to be in the mid 70’s and sunny.

This is a category weighing heavy on my mind as to how to handle the issues occurring within the Eagles Auxiliary and how much I want to deal with it. It’s one of those situations that needs to be rectified, but will be like a horror show to watch it unfold.

My dilemma is do I want to be the one to champion the cause to get the ball rolling or let it play out which will likely take months of bad feelings and inappropriate behavior by a self appointed “dictator” who is constantly overstepping her position by demanding people say please and thank you to her, but then turning around and commanding them to do things at her bidding instead of asking them to be involved, demanding people do things her way (instead of Robert’s Rules of Order) and doing their (i.e., the secretary) jobs her way like preparing an agenda that only SHE has pre-approved of in advance and forcing any NEW BUSINESS not pre-approved by her for the agenda to be tabled until the next meeting, rewriting decisions she doesn’t like, etc… BUT, everyone is walking on eggshells around her because she is such an unpredictable nightmare to be around and is someone they just don’t want to deal with. :SIGH: It is a VERY sad situation. Everyone is just trying to keep the peace and hope the situation works itself out.

My husband called this one though I’m sorry to say. He said before the election was ever even held that if she got elected she’d be trying to run the show and the whole facility before it was all over.

Within the Eagles organization her position, which she ran unopposed because NOBODY wanted to poke that hornet’s nest, is supposed to have only 2 main functions 1) facilitate our meetings and 2) be a tie-breaker vote NOT be the self appointed dictator she has made herself.

No one believed it would be a BIG deal for her in this position because it was so limited in duties. She is also not to head any committees, but can be a member of them, though once again she is controlling them all. At this point even the strong members are “afraid” to confront her when she is in the wrong and I think are just hoping to wait it out. Unfortunately, he was right and many members have “drunk the kool-aid” or stepped down all together to avoid confrontation. VERY SUPER SAD FOR AN ORGANIZATION THAT HAS A MOTTO OF PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE.

The husband of the woman in question was overheard saying to her not to back down or “they” win. They in this case being me who has reportedly sided with the other” side. What was my offense you wonder? I had the audacity to volunteer to take the minutes (something I am extremely qualified to do) for my friend who is the secretary while she is out having ankle replacement surgery and it was only for 2-3 meetings. And it truly was just to write down the meeting minutes and my friend would still have been doing the computer work from home. My bigger offense according to hubby is that I’m positive and capable and friendly plus I follow the rules and ask others about how they want things. The dictator sees this as a threat. This is a woman who in the beginning would walk up to people and say things like, “You don’t like me very much do you?” or order a drink at the bar and when the bartender asked for money would say things like “Find someone to buy it for me” and walk away…

Ironically, if I have “sided” with the other side, it’s of their own making by playing so many games. In reality I haven’t “sided” with other side but with the ENTIRE organization and used my talents where they were most needed at any given time, especially during the recent crisis and rebuild in the aftermath of the water main break. I might mention that she and her crony (yes I believe there is only one) did not lift a finger to help during the crisis.

Quick bite today of peach yogurt and 2 sips of coffee before I move to ice tea as I have projects and meetings all day at the Eagles to move towards this upcoming conference.

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I have some ironing to do, but with the weather changing have been putting it off since I probably won’t be wearing these things for months. I’m actually caught up on everything else.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I seriously need to get to the grocery stor later today! The errands are really caught up though.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
FALL season starts next week, but this week I’m catching up on cooking shows (Beat Bobby Flay, Girl Meets Farm, Guy’s Grocery Games) that have been DVRed all summer as well as Halloween Baking started last week. We also watched a season of SHINING VALE with Courtney Cox and Greg Kinnear which is a bit weird, but weird like a train wreck you can’t NOT watch! We also started watching an old western show I’d never heard of called LARAMIE.

I’m in between books, but plan to start a couple after the conference is over this next weekend. I also have a couple new fall baking/recipe magazines to read and am waiting on my newest Taste of Home Special Delivery box which is sure to have a new cook book in it. I’m also waiting on a Season’s Best cook pamphlet from my Pampered Chef order.

It was a FUN week around here. Went to breakfast Friday morning with a good friend and then to lunch with hubby and to see a movie. After that a few friends surprised me with a big cake and balloons and party with drinks. And then I spent Saturday with one of them out playing, shopping and for a wonderful lunch.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER MONDAY & MENUS week 37 of 2023 ~ BLOG 365.254

Good morning ladies. I can’t believe we are almost 3/4’s of the way through 2023! Seems like the summer has flown by. Now, I know I’ve been excessively busy, but still where did summer go? I thought I was done with work at the Eagles, but lo and behold we forgot a few things so there are a couple things to do today. Despite that I will be able to regroup this week and play catch up. I can’t wait to visit you all again!!

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

This week our daily highs are predicted to be in the high 80’s and 90’s edging us towards an Indian summer, but fortunately our night time lows will still be in the low 50’s meaning that those 80’s and 90’s will be only for a couple hours each afternoon. I can live with that 😀

I have on Levi’s with a favorite old t-shirt for my truly FINAL day of my Eagles building work! Well, for this week anyway. We did find a few more MUST DO SOON projects that HAVE to be done, but will be waiting until after the conference at the end of September to do them.

Our weather has turned pretty perfect in my book. High 40’s and low 50’s at night with mid 70’s during the day. Rain has also returned to the Pacific North West and the rain has helped tamp down the fires, ash and smoke in our area.

AWESOME NEWS the train is approaching the station on this overwhelming Eagles trip I’ve been on. My attitude is much better and I think things will iron themselves out with those causing the drama that the rest of us has had to live in.

It looks like we’ll be reopening as early as Wednesday. Today and tomorrow are a bunch of small finish projects and a little shopping to replenish the fresh produce. A friend and I will be preparing the first BIG meal which I consider an honor and privilege after all my hard work.

Peach yogurt and coffee before I’m off to meet with the plumber (AGAIN). We thought all was well, but the left side of the sink leaks since they hooked it up.

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING Despite not being home much, laundry is completely up to date. Cleaning is so-so, but I’ll get caught up next week.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS Definitely need to do lots of shopping and several errands this week.

  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING I’m so glad it’s time to start meal planning for fall.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV

These are the before, during and after photos of what I’ve been doing this past 6-8 weeks. We went from a plan to change the linoleum and replacing the cabinets to gutting out EVERYTHING including a bit of the sub-floor due to rot which we found after removing 4 layers of peel and stick tiles and old linoleum, removing 4 layers of interior walls and re-framing the walls etc… after the water main break and subsequent additional breaks. In a weird way the water line breaks were a godsend as they “forced”/”allowed” us to do things right and bring them up to code.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER MONDAY with MENUS & RECIPE LINKS week 35 of 2023 ~ BLOG 365.240

GOOD MORNING dear friends. Can you believe September is upon us? I used to think September was my favorite because it was my birthday month, but as I get older I realize it’s one of my favorite months because the temperatures calm down and the nights get cooler, the foods become more comfort oriented and I LOVE flannel. I’m so excited!

The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and making it possible to see the end of this Eagles remodel project. I have been away way too much from blogging the way I love to and from cooking in ways I enjoy. But, we have a completion date, well we have a date we’re aiming for and that will allow me more time to get back to cooking and blogging and some quilting too!

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

Unfortunately, last Thursday we had a HUGE thunder and lightning storm that lit our poor state on fire again. 19 fires just in our county according to the news. A few of the more local lightning strikes started fires about 8 miles out from here in unreachable (except by helicopter) areas and they are still burning making our air quality extremely poor, our cars and houses are covered in ash and beautiful, but deadly sunsets. 🙁 It’s currently over 1800 acres in treacherous terrain with 0% containment. Our county needs all the prayers it can get.

As I’ve said before I WILL finish my commitments through the conference we’re hosting in September, but I’m seriously considering stepping back at that point from MANY things associated with this particular group. I am a BIG believer in what The Eagles as an organization are all about – “PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE”

BUT, there are some “members” that are not getting their way about many things so won’t play nice in the sandbox. Unfortunately, they are officers or related to officers and creating more drama than most of us ever saw in high school. And like I told my girlfriend I didn’t do drama back in high school so I’m not about to start now. Hubby wants me to bow out all together.

The organization has 2 parts, the AERIE which is responsible for the building, bills, making a profit to cover those things etc… and the AUXILIARY which is responsible for the fundraising.

I’m technically auxiliary, but am so tired of being on the “outside” looking in to a group (that has become a serious clique) that’s supposed to be a sisterhood…. and why? Because I’m playing nice with “them (AERIE)” and not taking sides? I just don’t get it ☹️ GROW UP PEOPLE!!

Black Cherry yogurt and coffee – 2 sips anyway. The 2 sips seems to help satisfy me enough 🙂

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I am so far behind on many things! Like ironing and organizing. As soon as we complete the building I’m doing a serious deep clean!
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I postponed my hair appointment until the 14th (which is actually nice because I can pamper myself for my birthday the next day), but I HAVE to get some groceries this next week.
  • PAPERWORK, CALLS, PROJECTS & TRAVELS I’m EXTREMELY behind in the category also, but will get caught up after the 8th. Unfortunately, there are no travels planned in the foreseeable future 🙁 but we are planning to do a trip in mid October.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING I am so happy we’re almost to the ‘BER months.  I LOVE planning fall menus 😀

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • When we watch TV, we’ve been watching old reruns of NCIS, BIG BANG, The MIDDLE and The DONNA REED SHOW

I’ve FINALLY forced myself to read at night before sleep again. The latest issue of a series I’ve been reading came out a few days ago and I’m already 25% done so the second meme here REALLY applies!

I’m reading Marie Force’s State of Denial #5 in the First Family series.

Poor Chevy’s pond is taking a HUGE loss this year from our current drought. Not 3 months ago it was overflowing onto the road between the ponds because of excessive rain. Go figure.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER MONDAY with MENUS week 34 of 2023 ~ BLOG 365.233

Good morning sweet ladies. Thank you for bearing with me these past several weeks with my limited visiting time. I hope to get everyone visited tonight and get caught up!

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

After growing up in southern California I’m thrilled to be here with a mild forecast of low 80’s all week. I’m keeping all those affected by severe weather everywhere in my prayers. I’m wearing well worn Levis and POPs with a paint covered t-shirt to work over at the Eagles Post today.

I’m doing a bit better than last week.I sat down and made a complete project list to finish the Eagles with and things seem more manageable now. If we stick to it and EVERYTHING falls into place we can be open by Labor day weekend.

Hot water and cherry yogurt.

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I did actually get the laundry caught up and only need to do a bit of vacuuming.

This past weekend was our local Blackberry Festival. I worked the Eagles booth with a good friend both mornings from 9-11 which was a perfect time as it was still quite cool and pleasant.

Afterwards we were able to take in the pie judging, check out the classic cars, shop the vendor booths and take in the pet pie eating contest. This is Venture, a 10 month old Saint Bernard who only took 3rd place, but she really stole the show. I’m pretty sure she’ll be taking 1st place next year!

I was also able to get some really wonderful FRESH roasted Hatch chiles 😀

I wish there were some 😀 I have a few ready to type up, but just ran out of time. I’m hoping to get caught up yet this week.

LOL 😀 Same as last week since I was too tired to participate each night.

Forgive me, I know we’re ALL hot this summer. But, this is the Pacific north west. We’re not supposed to have these kinds of triple digit heat!

I’m COMPLETELY exhausted! Physically and mentally both. I’ll be finishing my commitments on the committees and projects I’m working on to rebuild the building and the September conference, but will then be taking a step back a bit to reassess the scope of my work with the Eagles.

I’m proud that I’ve mainly been able to maintain BLOG 365, but I do need to finish 6 or 7 posts to be caught up. I’m hoping to do those this week during the extreme heat. Also one of the reasons I need to take a step back from what’s going on in the Eagles life.

We’re a non-profit volunteer organization which I love. I’ve belonged and worked with MANY VFW’s, American Legions, FISH and such, but I’ve never encountered the kind of “in-fighting” that I have here in this small town. Much of it dates back to when these people were kids and has no place in what we are trying to do now or with the rest of us as a whole.

The split between the main body and the auxiliary is a bit unnerving and those “in charge” are acting as petulant teenagers. For me, I didn’t do high school IN high school so I’m not about to start now. I’m especially NOT going to let it pull me from doing the things I like now – things like blogging, cooking, quilting etc… by stealing my time to deal with their old petty nonsense. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities out there…

Getting an early start due to the heat, so just some coffee.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER MONDAY with MENUS & RECIPE LINKS week 32 of 2023 ~ BLOG 365.219

GOOD MORNING dear friends. This will be quick this morning 😀

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

Today is supposed to be triple digits and I’ll be working indoors doing dirty work so I have on paint clothes and old POPs. Fortunately, the triple digits for us are supposed to be short lived. It really hasn’t been too bad here so I won’t complain.

Early morning meeting regarding the water main break so just some coffee.

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING / GROCERIES & ERRANDS / PAPERWORK, PHONE CALLS, PROJECTS & TRAVELS / RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING I had cleared the week for all the work at the Eagles, but we may be at a standstill after today’s meeting so my girlfriend and I will be doing just a couple inventory items and a paint project and then will be making an unplanned trip out of town for some shopping.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • We watched a few movies this past week that were all pretty good – Hidden Strike, Thunder Force, NON-Stop, and a kind of weird one, but interesting concept called Paradise.

That said, who has had time or energy to read?

I can’t say these were favorites, but they were some of the only ones I took this week. They were all for insurance reasons. All the work we’ve been doing for the Eagles was almost for naught. Friday night there was a water main break in front of the building that came close to flooding the building. Instead it flooded the crawl space UNDER the building.

On Saturday morning we found that evidently when they turned the water back on late Friday night there was mud in the line and it clogged the new ice machine filter which blew out the line spewing water EVERYWHERE for hours. Once again we were lucky that it spewed towards a basically unfinished area of the storeroom draining into the crawl space.

Then on Sunday morning, it was the water line in the kitchen that blew. Turns out this old building had no water turn off to the building and the fire department had to come to our rescue turning off all the water. This morning we will be installing a new and separate internal water turn off in the kitchen area so that the fire department can come back and turn our water to the building back on.

While were going to be doing some upgrades with new cabinets and such, we now have a HUGE mess on our hands. The city and insurance are about to be involved and things just got crazy.

The building is over a hundred years old and had its issues, but the drawbacks are becoming more and more noticeable.

We don’t have any fires in our area (yet and pray we don’t), but the way the wind has been blowing off the coast the ones around us (there are 2 – one southwest and one southeast, but both 100 miles away) feel and smell like they are in our backyard.

All in all our weather hasn’t been bad this summer with the exception of a couple days in the 90’s with HIGH humidity. Today is supposed to be in the high 80’s. So far our mornings have been absolutely gorgeous because our evenings are still getting a cool coastal breeze and cooling off quite well overnight. I’ll be working at the eagles today so have on my “paint” clothes and an old pair of POPs.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles, a 125 year old international non-profit organization, unites fraternally in the spirit of liberty, truth, justice, and equality, to make human life more desirable by lessening its ills, and by promoting peace, prosperity, gladness and hope or more simply put has a motto of People Helping People.

That said, as with all things made of human components, there are dissenters and critics. While we aren’t supposed to speak ill of one another, I will voice my opinion in generalities and not use specific names.

Hubby and I along with a VERY SMALL (6? people) handful of others have been working EXTREMELY hard for weeks now to overhaul our AERIE nest which is a building that is over 100 years old and shows its age in many, MANY places.

Obviously this work is NOT happening overnight and the work is being done when we are closed for business which can be limiting with people’s schedules. We have bands every Saturday night and are open to public guests.

There have been several critics who have voiced a few opinions, but on this past Saturday one particular woman who spends the majority of her time doing nothing BUT complaining about EVERYTHING was found to be moving things like chairs and decorations as well as removing things to her liking which prompted me to make this sign to post. 🙁

Breakfast is still not my favorite meal so some yogurt and kiwi lime strawberry Celcius water is all I’m having.

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING mostly up to date.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I am taking some time this week to get a pedicure, do some shopping and take some time for myself. I also need to take hubby to an eye doctor appointment because he won’t be able to drive afterwards. I have to pick up some trophies that we were having repaired for the Lodge as well as ingredients for the Tuesday special meal.
  • PAPERWORK, PHONE CALLS, PROJECTS & TRAVELS I’m waiting for some calls back regarding a few things that need to get handled.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING My menu is made through August, but as always at this time of year is subject to change based on farmer’s market available produce.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • NETFLIX We watched a movie that was fun (though I could have lived without the subtitles), HIDDEN STRIKE with John Cenna and Jackie Chan and one in particular that was quite good and a bit surprising as the star was Allison Janney who I’d only ever seen in the comedy, MOM, but this was a serious drama. The hidden gem was Tom Hanks as A MAN CALLED OTTO.
