A – 2017 A to Z CHALLENGE

Ironically when I decided to do the A to Z challenge this year it starts on  the day I’m at The Alamo. I haven’t been here since 1992 and hubby had never been, but with being retired Army wanted to visit.  So, when we had the opportunity to visit San Antonio for a friend’s milestone birthday as a surprise we couldn’t let it pass without visiting.  I find it interesting that a city as big as San Antonio is basically built around an old fort.

The battle of the Alamo was of HUGE significance because there were so many noteable Americans (Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, William B. Travis) killed in the battle. Per Wikipedia, “The Battle of the Alamo (February 23 – March 6, 1836) was a pivotal event in the Texas Revolution. Following a 13-day siege, Mexican troops under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna launched an assault on the Alamo Mission near San Antonio de Béxar (modern-day San Antonio, Texas, United States), killing all of the Texian defenders. Santa Anna’s cruelty during the battle inspired many Texians—both Texas settlers and adventurers from the United States—to join the Texian Army. Buoyed by a desire for revenge, the Texians defeated the Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto, on April 21, 1836, ending the revolution. …In the early morning hours of March 6, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. After repelling two attacks, the Texians were unable to fend off a third attack.”

I’ll add in some pictures from today’s visit after we get home.

What a great A post! I just left a comment on another HHM’s A to Z post to say that I’m not finding the challenge as user friendly as in years past (and it’s only Day 1!). There used to be categorizations of the blogs – LI for Lifestyle and so on – so that you could read the ones that were most like your style and then branch out into others if you wanted. It’s hard to go through the 300+ comments and click on links that may not have any interest to you (in my case, adult content or science fiction – not my genre at all). I made a list of the HHM bloggers who were participating and I’ll start with them first before I wade through all the A to Z comments.

Thank you and I agree that it is not as user friendly. Fortunately, (at least for me) I do it for myself to learn and explore. I think they changed it to make it easier for them, not us.
