WEEKEND RECAP

Good morning dear friends. I hope you all enjoyed your week! After being pretty much a homebody for 10 days we FINALLY really got out and about on Saturday. We started early and visited 3 different farmer’s markets in 3 surrounding towns and had a pizza at a favorite brewery, but the smokey fire air was getting to my eyes along with the heat and humidity so we came home mid afternoon and I binge watched a couple shows and then we watched a SYFY movie called MADAME WEB after dinner.

Sunday was more laid back, but I did accomplish getting the laundry caught up as well as some deep cleaning and organizing. I’ve been doing little projects where I can stay away from dust and bacteria. I ended up in the on-call ophthalmologist’s office last Tuesday with a slight infection starting so ended up on antibiotics šŸ™ nipping the infection right away and at least I get my stitches out Wednesday! šŸ˜€ I also pickled the beets I bought at the farmer’s market and grilled BBQ chicken for an early dinner.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE

This week is supposed to be a lot of partly cloudy and still in the 90’s with A LOT of smoke, so not the prettiest of weeks. This will be definitely be a flip flop week with comfy Levi’s and tanks with lightweight blouses. I’m hoping Thursday is a really good weather day since most of it will be spent outside at the county fair. I will wear actual shoes that day šŸ˜€

ON MY MIND

For the past 2 years I have been trying really hard to stay up with blogging daily. So, 3 days a week I have set up to do WORDLESS WEDNESDAY, SATURDAY COFFEE and SILENT SUNDAY. These 3 days seem like all I do is post a meme or special picture, but a lot of thought goes into deciding these and they each mean something to me in a positive way I want to convey to others. My husband asked me if that was cheating? I don’t think so – it’s just my Type A personality staying focused and organized šŸ˜€ I do post Happy Homemaker Monday in depth and 2-3 recipes, tutorials or trips on the other 3 days that require much more thought.

TO DO LIST, APPOINTMENTS & PROJECTS

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING ALL done!
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I’ll head to town in a bit to get a few things.

DVR/TV TIME

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • NETFLIX We finished the SWEET TOOTH series with James Brolin narrating – love his voice.
  • AMAZON PRIME We have spent more time inside the past week with me still recuperating and the wind shifting so we were getting HORRIBLE smoke and ash from the fires in the eastern part of the state. So, we watched SPACE CADET which was cute, kind of like a space version of LEGALLY BLONDE from years ago. We finally watched THE BOYS ON THE BOAT. We also started watching STARGATE ATLANTIS as binge reruns.
  • CABLE Cooking shows – BBQ BRAWL, FOOD TRUCK RACE, MARY MAKES IT EASY
  • THEATRE The smoke was really bad, but we were tired of staying indoors so went to see TWISTERS! It was really good, but then again it was a Spielberg film šŸ˜€

We took back roads a lot this weekend and I noticed that so many farms are starting to stockpile bales of hay for winter. And I LOVE barns, so getting a few pictures of some of my favorites was quite nice. I also LOVE finding these rocks and re-hiding them!

WEEKEND RECAP

We started the weekend Friday by traveling to our “BIG” go to town an hour+ away in order to pick up my Hallmark Premiere order for the Keepsake ornament club, do some antiquing and eat at a favorite restaurant (though they were not as good as normal) and I even started my Christmas shopping šŸ˜€

It was a fairly quiet weekend though for us despite all that was going on around us (Music Off Central, Bull Riding Stampede, Graffiti Week with classic cars, the Lavender Festival and Lots of LIVE bands everywhere! We did go see TIMBERWOLF on Saturday night with friends and while the guys drank Annette and I worked the door and raffle. Sunday was much quieter and I was able to get the laundry done as well as see a dear friend for a few hours.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE

We’re NOT in triple digits, but are oh so close 😂 At least the humidity is fairly low around 20% so I WILL NOT complain about summer though I am already looking forward to fall! I have on Levis rolled to capri length, my favorite birkenstock thongs and a pretty pink paisley blouse.

ON MY MIND

I can’t help wondering when exactly we declined as a polite society? I know this is mostly a rhetorical question, but seriously I pray we wake up (AND SOON), starting talking to each other and finding middle ground instead of senseless violence. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

TO DO LIST, APPOINTMENTS & PROJECTS

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I had several loads of laundry to do and was going to work them into my free evening hours this week to avoid taxing the appliances in the heat of the day, but was able to get them done yesterday. Just a bit of sorting and general clutter pick up otherwise.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS & MEETINGS I have to go to town and sign the surgery consents today so will pick up the necessary groceries for home at that time. I also have a few meetings this week regarding the upcoming BBQ Throwdown in our little town next weekend. This will be the second annual, but the first was such a HUGE success that I really have high hopes for this becoming a permanent event! Everyone seems to enjoy it and we have attracted sanctioned BBQers from ALL around the country. There is also a high stakes Corn Hole Tournament.
  • PAPERWORK, PHONE CALLS, PROJECTS & TRAVELS Slowly, but surely I am making progress on a couple projects and sorting old paperwork, but it’s a SLOW process.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING I’m still researching some summer recipes and making progress in re-writing some older favorites to update them to current ingredient styles. I’m also going to make some banana ketchup this week for my first time.

DVR/TV TIME

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • NETFLIX We started the sequel to REBEL MOON, but just can’t get into it – they were taking too long to get “there” and have “borrowed” too many things from other favorite SYFY movies s we started binge watching SUPERNATURAL as we never watched it when it was on regular. I am also watching the old MacGyver series with Richard Dean Anderson.
  • CABLE I have a few cooking shows to catch up on, but haven’t had much TV time.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 1 of 2022

Doing Happy Homemaker Monday so extensively helps keep me on track as it summarizes the past week and lays out a fairly concise plan for this week.

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up
with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

Do you do new year’s resolutions? I quit years ago because I felt they were always too short lived. Instead I try to make lifestyle habit changes that are longer term and I try to adjust regularly.

I was gifted several planners this year so I have the unique opportunity to try them all out and see what really “fits”. One of the planners is a menu planner and habit tracker. I’m just not sure quite yet what is going to work best with my organizational style.

I did spend most of the snow week working on cleaning up my digital files and updating my computer so I could start the new year a little “cleaner”.

I was also gifted The Illustrated Compendium of UGLY English words which I’m finding quite amusing. We all have those words that just make us cringe and this calendar appears to be going to touch on all of them šŸ˜€

A Compendium is a collection of concise but detailed information about a particular subject, in this case UGLY English words.

I thought it would be fun to keep track of these each week as a source of amusement. They did cheat a bit and only give us one word for the whole weekend. šŸ˜€

  • January 1/2 – ACRID (adjective) – Deeply bitter; corrosive; so unpleasant in taste or odor that it causes people to retch instantaneously and shriek the word into the air like a pained battle cry: “ACKKKKK-RID.”
  • January 3 – BACKWASH (noun) – A backward current; the moving of waterin a reverse direction; the liquid that flows from a person’s mouth back into the bottle when they remove it from their lips. Or, rather, the spit water that a younger sibling uses to prevent you from stealing swigs of their drink.

I decided to join in with many others and choose a word for the year and make a list of things to accomplish also. If you’re interested that post is here.

The cold and snow lasted through yesterday so I really got my wish for Christmas snow! A new storm, a bit warmer HA HA 40’s instead of 30’s, started pushing in just after lunch. We’re supposed to get close to 5 inches of rain in 5 days with this storm front. Oh, and now it’s windy – REALLY windy!! They said the wind advisory was from 4pm yesterday through 4pm today, but it showed up early with a vengeance. Before it began we did at least get the outside Christmas decorations put into the garage to dry out a bit before being packed away for the year.

I actually wish it was snow since we are already so wet and now have huge puddles of run off water EVERYWHERE and 5 inches more will just turn that all into mud puddles and slick roadways. Plus with the wind it will still feel just as cold šŸ˜€ But, at least we’ll be worrying less about frozen pipes.

I’m feeling extremely anxious and concerned. My prayers go out to everyone suffering, in whatever way, from anything, but especially from this pandemic. Seems like no matter how hard we try to stay safe, life happens around us leaving so many susceptible.

We found out just before new years that our vaccinated step son and his wife have COVID and are really quite ill with breakthrough infections. We have several other friends who while also vaccinated have just healed from bad breakthrough infections.

Thank god they were vaccinated if the severity of their breakthrough infections is any indication of how much worse it would have been had they not been. But, they are not out of the woods yet and prayers would be deeply appreciated.

Hot water and peach yogurt

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING Hubby is having some surgery tomorrow and will be home and “out of commission” this week so I’ll be staying close. I’ll use that time to take down the tree, finish sorting the ornaments and put away ALL the Christmas decorations. Truth be told I’m loving having the tree still lit up and glowing during the dreary weather.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I did the grocery shopping and errands last Wednesday before the craziness of the holiday set in. We were isolating and preparing for hubby’s surgery tomorrow so avoided everyone and every situation out of precautiion.
  • PAPERWORK, PHONE CALLS & PROJECTS End of the year paperwork sort and clean up and preparing the files for 2022.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING I’ve planned as many of my January recipes around cleaning out the pantry and freezer as possible. I’m also concentrating reworking any new recipes I make into meals for two so we don’t have any leftovers and adjusting recipes as necessary.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • NETFLIX
  • CABLE The Rose parade while shorter at least happened this year. We missed the first season of Yellowstone when it began because we were in the middle of the BIG move back here and just never were able to catch up. And then Paramount ran a marathon this past New Years and since we were home isolating waiting for hubby’s surgery, we’ve been binge watching to catch up to last night’s season finale. Several new cooking shows started last night and this week that I want to try. And regular TV programming began again too so now I find myself right back in catch up mode šŸ˜€ And Mike Rowe’s Dirty jobs began again – I’ve always loved this show and learning about all these horribly dirty jobs.

I just finished State of Grace from Marie Force and am looking forward to the next installment in September, but in the meantime she’s branching off again into a 3rd series that will expound on the characters even more, but that book doesn’t come out until February.

In the meantime I will be reading Ava Miles Beside Golden Irish Fields of another series for this author with characters that I also love.

I’m anxious to begin the Hidden Child by Louisa Fein and When the Nightingale Sings by Suzanne Kelman. I’m hoping they both write in similar style to Gill Paul who writes stories about today that began during WWI or WWII and leave their footprints along the way tying the present to the past.

We had a wonderful, but quiet Christmas and New Years with just over a foot of of snow which was quite beautiful making it a true Winter Wonderland. A few friends are “blaming” me for all the snow because I kept wishing for a Christmas snow. LOL I did wish for it, but I just didn’t plan on it being quite so much or lasting through the end of the year!

The neighbor boys made a “toppled” snowman and tried their hand at “pool sledding” šŸ˜€ Fortunately I was able to take all these pictures without even stepping outside!

While I do most of this twice a year or even some it quarterly, I “start” my year with the following list. Doing this makes it easy to remember when it was done last šŸ˜€

  • Change the smoke detector batteries
  • Change the refrigerator filter
  • Change the kitchen water filter
  • Wash the cold air return filter
  • Clean behind the refrigerator
  • Clean behind the stove
  • Do a vinegar clean in the coffee pot
  • Do a vinegar clean in the washing machine
  • Do a baking soda/vinegar clean on sink basins
  • Turn the hangers around! I do make an exception for things that are obvious exceptions like special dresses to wear to formal events. weddings or funerals etc…

I’m trying a new menu planner and habit tracker for 2022 that will hopefully streamline my menus. I’m also still including the links to last week’s posted recipes, featured party links for the week and upcoming recipes to be posted soon. I’m really hoping to get caught up on indexing recipes for the blog which is a monumental feat! After last week’s recipes all revolving around either prime rib or turkey I’m ready for a little more adventure.

Our old real estate agent sent us an email recently with a few ideas on indoor and outdoor projects for keeping busy during the pandemic and I thought I’d share some of those.

I hope that you and those you love are staying safe and keeping busy. Literally the world over, people are trying to find creative ways to fill their idle time and be productive at home ā€“ getting things done around the house, delving into those hobbies and activities they always think about but never have a chance to explore, and spending some good old-fashioned quality time with their family.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING – A HUGE storm rolled through unexpectedly last night leaving behind a TON of humidity to start the day.Ā  At least the storm also brought in a COOL front and it’s only supposed to be in the high 80’s this week so I’m wearing cut offs and a teal polo shirt.

GOOD MORNING sweet ladies. It’s been a busy week around here and I’m still struggling with energy issues so am not getting as much done as I want AND/OR need to which is leaving me frustrated. My TO DO list is growing, but at least there will be a reward at the other end of this hassle.Ā  I’m really looking forward to the time to rehab with the gym and pool in hopes that my elusive energy and strength return in earnest.

I’m having a few blog issues too that are baffling my server guy so I’m a bit frustrated every time I see that “fatal error” on my side bar. I’m hoping he figures it out soon and I can have a bit easier way of blogging. Right now I have to log in, password and all EVERY time – so frustrating.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 18 of 2018

Good morning everyone. I cannot believe it’s Monday again. Last week just completely sped by! I’ve barely gotten last week’s visits in before it was time to write today’s post! I promise to be better this week about visiting! šŸ˜€Ā  This will be another busy week, but I hope you are all having slower paced and enjoyable weeks.

Be sure to link up with
Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom for Happy homemaker Monday

and with Laura at I’m an Organizing Junkie for Menu Plan Monday.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE – we are no longer blessed with the unseasonally cool and nice weather we have had.Ā  I guess spring is over šŸ™Ā  Starting this week we have seriously higher humidity and temperatures will be in the high 80’s all week.

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE – Cheerios, Small banana & Green tea

ON MY MIND / THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME HAPPY – I’m trying really hard to live a positive life and not get too worked up over what is really out of my control.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA – I’m working on a post for our trip to the alligator park that will be up in a day or two, but I love this picture of a sleepy alligator that was yawning and couldn’t be bothered with the activity around him.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 17 of 2018

GOOD MORNING sweet ladies. I hope you all had a wonderful week. Mine was productive, but I’ve just been so tired. I’m having a REALLY tough time getting my energy back since the last surgery. The doctor keeps reminding me that 6 surgeries in 7 years (where the 1st and last were both really long surgeries – 8 hours each) is a lot for the body and to be patient, but patience is really NOT my strong suit. Not that I have much choice, so I just keep working at it. šŸ˜€

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE – once again the storms hit over the weekend. Saturday night was a wonderful thunderstorm and then Sunday was just gray, but today and tomorrow are supposed to be bright and sunny! We’re moving into that part of the year that is just too warm and humid for me so we’ll see if that lasts or if mother nature has at least one more cool front for me šŸ˜€

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE – honey nut cheerios and green tea

ON MY MIND / THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME HAPPY – moving forward in continuous stepsĀ  in all areas of life is making me smile more!

INSPIRATION

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE / WEEKLY TO DO LIST & HOUSE PROJECTS – there are no pressing appointments this week YAY šŸ˜€ I did get the results from last week and I’m good to go for a year on the mammogram, but they are watching the bone density more closely especially after the new issues with vitamin and mineral absorption from the stomach surgery. It’s ALWAYS something!

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 16 of 2018

Good Morning sweet ladies. I’m up and going quite early as I have first AM appointments and wanted to make sure I got this up and ready to post before I leave. I just hope my energy stays with me through the end of the day šŸ˜€ So I’m going to get straight to it this morning.

Be sure to link up with
Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom for Happy homemaker Monday

and with Laura at I’m an Organizing Junkie for Menu Plan Monday.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE – lately it seems like we only have storms on weekends šŸ˜€ This week was no different as the storm started rolling in Friday afternoon.Ā  And once again it brought a severe temperature dip of almost 30 degrees AND it brought A LOT of wind.Ā  We were fortunate that we were far enough south that we escaped the hail and major tornado warnings as a whole. Thia week we are supposed to go back up to the 80’s, but no rain in sight so let’s hope the humidity stays low šŸ˜€

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE – Green Tea only while prepping for this morning’s tests.

ON MY MIND / THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME HAPPY My mind is starting to work ALL the time as we move into the final stages of packing and prepping for a cross country move.Ā  Moving is never easy! But, it is even less so when moving things into storage for unknown period of time. We are making sure to take all the batteries out of remotes, clocks and tools before we pack them to avoid corrosion and anything that is getting washed is let to dry a few extra days before getting secured into packing.

  • APPOINTMENTS…this morning I have my bone density, mammogram and mammogram ultra sound and then my eye exam on Friday. I’ll especially be glad to have today’s tests over and know the results.Ā  Being a cancer survivor ALWAYS not only makes me more vigilant, but also makes the wait for results a hypersensitive time.
  • LAUNDRY… quite a few loads this week, towels, bedding (mattress covers and quilts too) and clothing PLUS I’m running the wall quilts through air cycles to collect the dust before packing
  • LIVING AREAS… plan on doing a deep clean today and tomorrow to catch the stray packing materials, but it is looking more and more like we’re moving soon šŸ™‚
  • KITCHENā€¦ pretty clean and empty as we keep using only what’s in the pantry and freezer
  • STUDIOā€¦ is moving box storage these days so nothing going on there
  • YARDā€¦ nothing much after the weekend storms, just too wet to do anything though the yard really does need mowing
  • BLOGā€¦ still doing some recipe updating and future post planning

SUCCESSFUL RECIPE LINKS FROM LAST WEEK

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 15 of 2018

GOOD MORNING sweet ladies. I hope you had a wonderful week and an even better weekend. Last week was pretty busy with appointments and odds and ends things for me, but this week looks to be a little slower and I hope to get a lot more accomplished though I seem to have a bit of a cold from all the crazy weather this weekend which is already slowing me down. Having an almost non-existent immunity makes a cold pretty scary for me and I end up staying in to avoid getting even sicker which slows down EVERYTHING!

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE – It looks like this week will be mellow, but the weather changes too quickly around here sometimes.Ā  Last Saturday’s 40 degree drop wasn’t originally predicted either šŸ˜€

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE – peach yogurt and green tea

ON MY MIND / THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME HAPPY/FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA – things are moving along here with sorting, packing and even seem to be dragging a bit at times, but I know they’ll speed up at the end so am glad to have the time to pack properly and patch the nail holes, etc… as I go.Ā  We sold this as turn key and want to truly leave it move in ready – right down to the house being completely clean including the windows.

INSPIRATION

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE / WEEKLY TO DO LIST & HOUSE PROJECTS – I spent Saturday inside since it was so cold outside and went to town on getting chores done.

  • LAUNDRY… I did all the sheets, towels and bedding on Saturday so just a couple loads of jeans and tops
  • LIVING AREAS… messy but actually clean under the clutter of all the sorting and packing
  • KITCHENā€¦ pretty clean really.Ā  I’ve been condensing and cleaning out the pantry and fridge and getting as much recycled apossible
  • YARDā€¦ after the weekend storms it’s just too wet to do anything, but it will need mowed and trimmed before the end of the week
  • BLOGā€¦ still doing some recipe updating and compilation from the old blog, future post planning for while we are on the road and even some holiday post planning because it will be here before you know it
