Food for thought about men and dogs

I have this saying written down on a scrap of paper. I have no idea if I wrote it down from a movie, TV show or a book I saw it in, but I thought it was really great.

When dating a new man, make sure he has a dog. You can tell a lot about the character of a man by how he treats his mother and his dog.

This is so true! My hubby never had pets when we got together (living in a barracks with Marines isn’t a good environment for an impressionable dog). I had dogs, cats, hamsters, fish, turtles, frogs and more than a few dust bunnies. He was good to them and I ended up marrying him. After 5 dogs and 2 litters of puppies as well as 5 cats and more than a few fish, I guess he’s a keeper. 🙂

So true! I don’t expect a man to LOVE animals with the same passion that I do, but I do expect to see him express compassion and consideration for them. I always like to see how a man is with animals. A man who beats his dog won’t necessarily beat his wife, but I believe any man who beats his wife will beat his dog.

I’ve heard this expression a few times; I have to disagree a little…if his mom is a loon & he doesn’t get along with her this doesn’t apply LOL
