Where I’ve been and where I want to go

You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true.  You may have to work for it, however,” ~Richard Bach, Illusions
Many of you know I was taking care of my mother-in-law earlier this year.  She just turned 90 and has Alzheinmers.  We have also been fighting the VA for several years now over hubby’s last deployment leaving me knee deep in paperwork, phone calls and appointments trying to straighten it out and now I find myself in a psuedo care taking position for my aunt who has end stage Parkinson’s disease and a lousy attitude closed mind and cry wolf attitude.
Without a long story full of petty details let’s just say it has been a long, long, long year.  We have lived in 4 separate states in the past 9 months and dealt with everyone else’s needs except our own.  My blogging is suffering, my health is suffering and my peace of mind is suffering.  So what is the answer?
I have finally decided the answer is putting my/our needs first.  It may be selfish, but the time has come to be just that! So the plan is to get back on track with regular posting, menu planning, recipe experimenting and living life to the fullest.  I will be hitting the “mark all read” button on my google reader and allowing myself a “FRESH” start.  I hate doing that, but feel it is the best and only way to dig myself out of this hole!
I look forward to getting back to regular blog reading and a quality life. I’ll see you all in blogland soon.

There’s nothing wrong with a fresh start! It’s about time you take care of YOU!!!!! I’m glad to hear it. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to facilitate your fresh start.

Thanks Joy! I look forward to being back on so many levels.

Thanks Sammyjo. We have been working with a vet’s center, but the original service officer was fired within hours of filing our claim and it seems the claim has been plagued ever since with lost paper work and lack of follow through, etc… We are trying to get it all settled.

I’ve only been reading your blog for about a week so I haven’t even noticed that you haven’t been around very much but I applaud you and welcome back!! All of your posts are so real and refreshing. I’m going to make the Boeuf Flamande this weekend. It looks very yummy. I was reading about your husbands problems with the VA. Have you thought of going to a Vet Center? My husband was deployed to Iraq in 2005 and again in 2007 and we have been going through the same thing. The Vet Center has been wonderful though. They usually help with counseling but they also have people there that can help you with a claim. I hope everything works out for you and your health.

Glad to see you are at last putting yourself first, and giving yourself a fresh start. I could see when you were blogging, and even when you weren’t (silence speaks volumes), that this was a very tough year for your family. Just remember that all this difficult time is only a season, and this too shall pass. The first rule in care giving is to take care of yourself. You cannot take care of others for any extended time any other way. Do enjoy life to its fullest. I look forward to your return to regular blogging at 3 Sides of Crazy. 🙂
