Tips on Tuesday ~ The Best Jewelry Cleaner

Hosted by Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

Do you have a tip on cooking, cleaning, homemaking, kids, marriage, travel or anything that you would love to share? Feel free to join in!

My tip this week is for the best and super inexpensive jewelry cleaner. Denture cleaner tablets! You can pick up a box of 100 for around $4. House brand works just as well as name brands too. Keep a small bowl and old toothbrush handy. Get your rings wet and brush over the surface to loosen the dirt. Put them in the bowl and just cover with water. Pop in 1 tablet and let set several hours or over night. I used to take mine in for a good cleaning and my jeweler actually taught me this, he said this is what they use a lot of the time. I run the toothbrush over them again before rinsing and they turn out like new!

DO NOT USE THIS ON SILVER JEWELRY AS IT WILL TARNISH THEM.
THIS METHOD IS ONLY GOOD ON GOLD OR PLATINUM!

Making a Happy Home Monday

One of the nicest surprises in the blog world is the many new places you find to explore when you dare to click on that link that you’ve never seen before. That is how I found this meme, Making a Happy Home Monday. I was visiting Lisa over at Blessed with Grace and clicked a link and found LL at As for me and my house… who hosts Making a Happy Home Monday.

Now I have to agree with Lisa whole heartedly about the old adage, Home is where your heart is. Hubby and I are experiencing that a lot lately. We chose to come here due to economics, but are having serious 2nd thoughts. We miss our family. Our family are our friends and we feel a bit empty without them. Phone calls are great, but they don’t substitute for a real hug or visit!

So for now, making a happy home is learning to bloom where we are while finishing this old house and looking for ways to find our way home. Every project done makes us a bit happier. This week it was a bathroom floor. Next week is the upstairs shower. I have a story to share about that, but am waiting for some supporting material to go with it.

Now that is not to say we’re not happy – we love this house. We just wish we could click those ruby red slippers and fly us AND the house home! LOL

Share Your Front Door Decor & Porches on Parade

My friend Barbara at Candy Hearts & Paper Flowers is hosting Share your front door Decor on Monday the 20th. Be sure and pop in and check it out. Over at the Inspired Room you can also find Porches on Parade.

My front door is NOT yet painted like we had hoped (we hate these colors, but there have just been so many other pressing projects – SIGH! – next year), but there is always next year. This looks especially creepy at night with the black lights on, but is hard to photograph then so we’ll have to settle for these. The fall decor behind doesn’t show well between the glass in the photo either so I took one from inside to show you. Click on a picture to enlarge for detail. This is what it looks like plain.

A few more happenings this weekend that I found over at the Inspired Room are:

Halloween festivity at Living Locurto! This is another great event that promises to be loads of fun! The party starts on Saturday. Click on her invitation!

And don’t miss the annual Halloween Party at A Fanciful Twist! Vanessa is a fabulous hostess, you will not be disappointed! Click on her invitation above to join in the fun beginning on Saturday!

I am thankful for… for hubby and my family! We miss family A LOT, but are taking one day at a time.

From the kitchen… I have some ideas for some new recipes, but nothing that is ready to share.

I am wearing… Levis, long sleeve tee and clogs.

I am creating… a mess this week with trying get the bits and pieces of this remodel out of my dining room.

I am going… nowhere! Yay!

I am reading & learning… nothing this week – taking a break!

I am hoping… that I get well this week and accomplish at least 1/2 my TO DO list.

I am hearing… the coffee and waiting for that last gurgle so I can have a cup.

Around the house… prep for winter and finish projects.

One of my favorite things… Fall, Halloween, the smell of apples and leaves burning.

Sunday Scribblings – My Style

My style is an easy and a hard thing to describe. I think back to what my style was in high school and well, it hasn’t changed all that much, ever. I also realize that many of those things went out of style and then came back though I refuse to admit my real age. I don’t physically look it, thank you God and when I get up in the morning and look in the mirror I still see a 21 year old 99% of the time. I blame that on positive attitude.

That being said, my day to day style is casual these days. The jobs I have had in recent years dictates it. I wear Levi’s and decorative Tees. My shoes are based on the season and weather. My hair and make-up vary based on the day’s activity, but not much.

I do have a closet that accommodates any occasion though. I am a girly girl and love to dress up and have the clothes and the accessories, everything from silk dresses to cocktail dresses, to do it, just not the occasions to do so lately.

So, I guess my style is comfortable, but appropriate for the occasion and my age at any given time.

Make it From Scratch

hosted by 11th Heaven’s Homemaking Haven

All of my recipes are made from scratch. But, it would be too cumbersome to enter all the recipes themselves, so I’m entering this great program I found that is making it possible to give personal Christmas gifts that will hopefully be family favorites and are made from scratch themselves. Tastebook is a wonderful program where you can enter all your own recipes and have a professional book printed.
