Quilts

These are my most recent quilts. I was really hoping to get them finished and others started this past winter, but the “new” house had other ideas. The pink and green is for my mom. The red, white and blue for my aunt and uncle and the orange and yellow is a “copy” of one I made my cousin so we’d have matching quilts. They all just need binding, so maybe I’ll finish them yet this month. The last one is fire themed and I made it for my stepson last Christmas which was also his birthday. The backing was doggy pawprints that matched the dalmations on the front.

House Paint Colors

Now we know our house will never look exactly like this house I cut out of a magazine and the colors are hard to really decipher, but these are the colors (Canoe, Quiet Shore and Cherry Bark) we want to use. We’ve decided to add siding to help add more insulation and that will make it easier to get the look we’re after. We’ve decided to sell the 150+ year old barn to help pay for the siding. It’s a cool barn, but we just don’t need it.

Dream House

We dreamed of leaving Southern California and having a “REAL” house of our own with a big yard for the dogs. We found this one and fell in love with it after many months of searching~only it wasn’t for sale. So we kept looking. A couple of months later when we went back to close on another house (that fell through~what a Godsend!), this one was now for sale. So, we bought it, said good-bye to our family and friends, packed up all our belongings, hopes & dreams and animals (Gunner & Whiskey, Sady & Dickens too) and made the cross country move. 8 months later it has been a huge adventure and project, but we’re loving every minute (well almost ever minute). Next post I’ll lay out the overall plan, setbacks and the plan of attack to bring it into the 21st century while maintaining its Victorian turn of the century charm.

Sweet Goodness Summer Swap

::__IHACKLOG_REMOTE_IMAGE_AUTODOWN_BLOCK__::0
This is all new to me, but we’ll give it a try. My cousin got me involved in this swap and I have had so much fun, but found I was one of the few who did NOT have a blog. So, I guess I need to join the 21st century and will start with the swap I’m about to send out.

SUMMER FUN: BUCKET FULL OF SUNSHINE SWAP
Cost Cap: $20 (not including shipping) Theme Colors: Orange & Yellow Details/Rules: Fill a container with SIX items in the theme of summer and orange & yellow. 1 – You must include at least ONE HANDMADE ITEM and ONE THRIFTED ITEM. 2 – You can use anything as your container, be creative! (Does not HAVE to be a bucket) You must decorate your container in the theme of the swap. BONUS: We will have a prize for the most creative container used! Details to come on the contents of the prize package. 3 – Have fun! were the parameters, so:

An antique hat box worked really well to decorate with the yellow and orange summer theme as well as fill with goodies to make it safer and easier for shipping. I filled the hat box with fun things for summer. I included a Tupperware yellow drink pitcher (thrifted item) filled with orange crystal light drink mix for when she sits at the beach or outside and writes letters on the yellow and orange moon and stars laser cut stationery on the bottom. There’s a wooden hand painted stamp roll (hand made item) to hold her roll of stamps for when she finishes her letters. There is also a box of orange (peanut butter) Girl Scout cookies to munch on while she writes as well as an Orange Smoothie drink mix and Artichoke parmesan dip mix. Don’t forget the sunflower coasters to set her drink on or the orange and yellow spatulas and matching tea towel to use to make more cookies for when she runs out. When she’s done with her letters there’s orange poppy seeds to plant and orange and yellow star post-its to write all her “I need to remember” notes on. There was the cutest orange and yellow duck that just begged to be included!

The second swap was done after a bit of confusion, but I feel really lucky to get 2 swap partners. Summer swaps are so much fun. Jane said she loves to quilt and do lots of crafts. So, I found this great yellow and orange throw blanket in grandma’s footchest and thrifted it from her garage sale. I figured Jane is so busy having fun that the orange marinater would come in handy and then I filled it with fun things like lemonheads, orange tic tacs, yellow and orange ribbon, yellow and orange star post-it notes, flourescent yellow and orange note pads, orange and yellow tye-dye craft felt and pipe cleaners, some orange and yellow scrapbook sayings, an orange votive in a palm tree holder, 2 great oak quilt holders and a handmade sunflower ‘dishes are clean and dirty’ magnet.

These are the great swaps I received from Jane and Rachelle. Jane decorated an old train case with vintage fabrics and filled it with an adorable summer quilt, vintage tea towels, scarves and lots of fun scrapbooking papers, ribbons and fantastic corncob holders. Rachelle’s package had a great vintage butterfly pyrex, hand made tags, ribbons, sketchbook, handmade butterfly magnets, candleholders and a handmade flower pot.

I think I’m almost down to 2½ sides…and I’m FINALLY taking back my life…

I love to cook, read, write, quilt, craft, go antiquing, amateur photography and to learn new things. I’m a Jill of many trades & always have more interests and desires than I have time. LOL I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I love being a homemaker and keeping my family healthy and happy.
As a Christian woman I believe life is all about change and that learning to cope with it as it happens will help you through life. I believe in Murphy’s Law, the Domino Effect, Payback’s a Bitch, and Karma. I also believe that Pay It Forward and living by the Golden Rule go a long way to keep the former from happening to begin with. I believe everything happens for a reason and that life is one big adventure.
I try to see life through rose colored glasses and be as tolerant as possible. My glass is always half full. I am an optimist, extremely positive minded and usually a really upbeat person so anything goes within reason.
I especially love to cook and develop new recipes. I have written a couple of cookbooks for family reunions that I’m working on getting published and have new cook books in the works.
I really love candles and try to always have one burning in the evening for aroma and ambiance.
