HISTORY – HIS STORY

Is anyone else out there wondering where they’re taking us in the “Jericho” series. I remember a high school history teacher telling us that the word ‘HISTORY’ could be broken into 2 words, HIS STORY and that history is really just the re-telling of a story based on ONE man’s perspective.

I also had a film professor in college that spouted rhetoric like it was a sermon. He believed that the media controls us. He believed that there is a “MESSAGE” in every show they put on TV. He believed that those in the know discern the message and spout when they feel the public is ready to learn it. Can you say, conspiracy theory?

Those 2 instances disturbed me a bit as a teenager. Now though, on Jericho, we have in a matter of no time at all a new president with NO election having been held. A new history book that blames the woes of the world on the U.S. for everything after WWII. Major cities destroyed everywhere including major magnetic destruction of electronics and a military power that somehow has access to all those destroyed records and more…

Brown hamburger and then drain. Fry bacon until crisp. Crumble bacon into pieces. Add to the remaining ingredients in slow cooker. Cook on low for 5-7 hours. Serve with beer bread or cheddar cheese biscuits. Great dish for a church pot luck.

Lemon Curd

I love lemon curd, but haven’t made any in a lonnnnnnnnnnnng time. I ran across a recipe for scones today over at Full Bellies Happy Kids that reminded me of this old recipe.

Juice of 6 lemons
1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
2 pounds sugar
1/2 cup butter, cut into small cubes
6 eggs, beaten

In a large saucepan combine lemon juice, lemon peel and sugar. Mix until sugar dissolves. Add the butter and eggs. Simmer over low heat, stirring constantly, until it begins to thicken, about 10 minutes. Pour into sterilized pint jars. Store in refrigerator. Mixture will thicken as it cools.

It is great on scones! If your looking for an easy and good scone recipe, head on over to Full Bellies, Happy Kids. But it also good as a cake or tart filling.

Makes 2 pints ~ Makes a great holiday basket gift.

Cheddar Cheese Bread or Biscuits

2 1/2 cups Bisquick
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Snow Day ~Holiday~ quilt projects!

We’ve been having quite a bit of snow here the past couple of days and I mean cold snow, wind blowing and teeth chattering kind of snow. So, I decided to take a snow day for me. I mean I wasn’t going outside for any reason and I’ve been working on this house non-stop for the past 16 months, it’s MY TURN kind of snow day. SO, I sat down at my sewing machine yesterday and tried to remember how to turn it on. Then I picked up a started project and tried to remember what I was going to do with it and then just let my fingers take over. This is what I accomplished:

A baby quilt top for my new 2nd cousin/niece/nephew.

J & S are doing it the old fashioned way and waiting to be surprised so we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl. I went with bright primary colors and a Noah’s Ark theme. J is due in April, but I’m going to visit in July while S is away working and I’ll take it with me then. I still have to make the chenille bear or bunny (I haven’t decided which yet) to match. I made G~man a bear, so I’m thinking this new one might be a bunny.

A while back I pledged to make next year’s Christmas presents

by hand. I got a start on 3 gratitude wall hangings.
Since I haven’t decided who is getting what yet or exactly how they’re going together, I’m not ruining any surprises. Now, I’ll be able to get back to work tomorrow with a better sense of accomplishment since I spent some time just for me!
