Snow Day ~Holiday~ quilt projects!

We’ve been having quite a bit of snow here the past couple of days and I mean cold snow, wind blowing and teeth chattering kind of snow. So, I decided to take a snow day for me. I mean I wasn’t going outside for any reason and I’ve been working on this house non-stop for the past 16 months, it’s MY TURN kind of snow day. SO, I sat down at my sewing machine yesterday and tried to remember how to turn it on. Then I picked up a started project and tried to remember what I was going to do with it and then just let my fingers take over. This is what I accomplished:

A baby quilt top for my new 2nd cousin/niece/nephew.

J & S are doing it the old fashioned way and waiting to be surprised so we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl. I went with bright primary colors and a Noah’s Ark theme. J is due in April, but I’m going to visit in July while S is away working and I’ll take it with me then. I still have to make the chenille bear or bunny (I haven’t decided which yet) to match. I made G~man a bear, so I’m thinking this new one might be a bunny.

A while back I pledged to make next year’s Christmas presents

by hand. I got a start on 3 gratitude wall hangings.
Since I haven’t decided who is getting what yet or exactly how they’re going together, I’m not ruining any surprises. Now, I’ll be able to get back to work tomorrow with a better sense of accomplishment since I spent some time just for me!

Winter Snow time

I posted the Fall color pictures, so I thought I’d post Winter too and then Spring and Summer to depict an entire year here in the North Woods.

A snowboarder catches a gust on Teal Lake while a herd of deer check out the offerings on top of the paint river recently frozen over.

During the summer, Whiskey could stand on her hind legs and snatch a fresh apple from the lower branches of the the obviously endless apple tree (it’s February in the U.P. and I still have apples!!!!!!). Now, she just stands there and waits for them to fall or digs with her snout in the 3 feet (that’s a 4 foot fence behind her) deep snow for the ones that have recently fallen. Gunner just wants someone to play ball with him.

Iceberg – snow not lettuce

Hubby cleared off the entire driveway (obviously we don’t need to open that door) except for this one ‘berg’ after the last blizzard. Mother nature got him back though. We had another blizzard yesterday and you can’t tell where the berg used to be, cuz the whole driveway is that height again.

~*~Blizzard~*~

The picture on the left was early this AM. The picture on the right was 5PM. Weather reports are predicting 1-2 inches per hour through the night and tomorrow morning with 40 mile an hour gusting wind. We’re staying home tonight with hot cocoa and snuggled in!

2 more walls

We’re getting closer, now I can see the light at the end of that tunnel really bright! The electrician finally got light to the kitchen and we were able to close up the final walls that were going to be exposed to the winter cold. We are also getting closer to the right trim color. After the 14 day cure time and maybe another coat we should be there.

Fall Color

I always dreamed of living somewhere that had 4 seasons. Now I can. This is the first time I can actually say I’ve lived through all 4 and there was a significant change each season. I have to say that Fall is one of the most beautiful. All of these pictures were taken within 5 miles of the house or in our backyard.
