GOOD MORNING sweet friends.  I hope everyone had a GREAT week and weekend.  I also hope you’re enjoying the last few weeks of summer. Personally, I can’t wait for fall and even winter.  Bring on the  sweater weather, rain and all things spice 😀

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING It’s still toasty here, but I’m hoping it starts tapering off fast.  I’m afraid we’re in for an Indian Summer though which I HATE!  Standard uniform today – Levis, soft summer t-shirt, barefeet and a smile 😀

WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE VOLUME 382

It’s time for Wednesday Hodgepodge hosted by Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. Head over to get the questions and answer them on your blog. Come play along!

  • From this Side of the PondFive years ago this month hubs and I relocated from New Jersey to the Palmetto State. What were you doing five years ago this month? 5 years ago today we were preparing to move to Texas to help my uncle by rehabbing my grandparent’s house after my cousin passed – still the worst decision ever, but that’s another story!
  • What was the last 9-5 job you worked? Tell us about it. I’ve NEVER actually had a job that was literally 9 to 5, so we’ll take that to mean a Monday-Friday “daytime job 😀 I managed an auto body repair shop for several years. I did whatever it took to make the day happen from fetching parts, picking up the owner’s kids from school, accounts receivable and payable etc…
  • Plead the fifth, high five, take five, it’s five o’clock somewhere, or the big 5-0…which number five phrase relates to your life in some way currently? Tell us how. It has to be IT’S FIVE O’CLOCK SOMEWHERE 😀 amid all the stress of the pandemic, quarantining and nowhere to go or anything to do with all the closures 😀
  • During this season of spending so much time at home, what distractions get in the way of being your most productive? Or have you been extra productive since this whole thing started? I’ve actually been super productive as much as possible.
  • Give us a list here of your top five anything. Things that make me happy 😀
  1. CLEAN & ORGANIZED
  2. FLOWERS
  3. FRESH FRUIT
  4. HOME COOKED MEALS
  5. MUNCHKIN HUGS
  • Insert your own random thought here.

TUESDAY 4 ~ A MATTER OF TIME

Tuesday 4, is a collection of 4 questions each week that is kept up in honor and memory of Toni Taddeo, founder of the meme.

1. Are meals eaten at certain times in your home or are they more spontaneous? Dinner is usually around 6PM, but the other meals depend on the schedule for the day.

2. If you attend religious services or club meetings, are they morning, afternoon or evening? Are there advantages/disadvantages to that time? Depends on the event and the schedule.  I never really thought about an advantage to either. 😀

3. Are you in bed and up in the mornings at a regular time each day? Yes

4. Do you set apart specific times during the day or week to do certain things like study, shopping, laundry, visiting?  Nope, make the schedule according to appointments and plans for the week.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 34 of 2020

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING I know everyone has been hot lately, but we had an EXCESSIVE heat here the past few days – like triple digits not normally seen here so we laid low.  This week is still supposed to be warm, but better than last week.  I’m wearing Levis and a soft t-shirt with bare feet 😀

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV We rented a few movies, added the new Peacock App to watch some old shows including the original SNL’s!  We even watched a few shows on NETFLIX, AMAZON and HULU too. We started a new British who done it last night called UNFORGOTTEN that is pretty interesting.

I’M READING Marie Force’s new series MIAMI NIGHTS book #1 How Much I Feel.  I finished Gill Paul’s ANOTHER WOMAN’S HUSBAND while we were traveling and really enjoyed it.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA I have an affinity for old graveyards.  This is one of my favorites in a quaint little town we went through on our way back from my SIL’s house.  I love how it creeps its way up the hillside with odd paths and stairs here and there. We hadn’t been there in a LONG LONG time.  I’m also aware how ironic putting my blog name on a cemetery photos is 😀

INSPIRATIONAL Unfortunate, but true 🙁

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 32 of 2020

GOOD MORNING I can’t get Willie Nelson out of my head! On The Road Again is playing over and over as we trek back to SIL’s house for an important meeting…

I hope you all had a GREAT weekend.  Since we had to cancel our anniversary trip later this month to make this trip instead, we left a little early to make a stop at the Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay. I do find it ironic though that you cannot go ANYWHERE and have it truly relaxing when you know there is a LIVE webcam on the area.  SIGH, I do suppose that keeps us safer though. At least there was serious social distancing going on.

We had planned to spend the day and not get to SIL’s until today, but changed our mind when it was 99° and too people so we powered through to finish the trek instead and arrived last night.  We’ll find something fun and relaxing to do on the way home to complete the trip.

with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING It’s high 80’s at home and higher yet where we wereyesterday, but SIL’s house is in the high 60’s.  I’m in love! 😀

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE Not sure yet – traveling is still really hard for me.

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE, WEEKLY TO DO LIST, HOUSE & CRAFT PROJECTS, APPOINTMENTS
Nothing this week as we deal with out of town issues.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV Absolutely nothing except what will record while we are gone.

I’M READING I finally finished Hurricane Season by Lauren Denton and loved it.  I’m also finally beginning Lost Friends.  I did read part of the Marie Force’s Green Mountain Vermont series, All My Lovin’ in the middle of those.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA Here are a couple quick pictures from yesterday’s visit to the Sundial Bridge (it really works) and this amusing one from a tiny border town.

WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE

Wednesday Hodgepodge is hosted over at From This Side of the Pond

1. Last time you moved house? Something you’ve learned in moving house? Last time we moved was a surreal and emotional move.  We had been rehabbing my grandparent’s house for my uncle (who eventually swindled us out of about $75,000 – but that’s another story).  It was a cross country move, so pretty expensive.  The thing I have learned the most is to ONLY move the most important things.  If it’s a cross country move there are a ton of things that are better donated and repurchased on the other end – things like toasters, coffee pots, patio furniture which is big, bulky and heavy, etc…

2. Move mountains, move along, make a wrong move, moved to tears, get a move on, move up, move over, move out of the way, move the deck chairs on the Titanic, move it!…pick one and tell us how it fits your recent circumstances. Tough topic in this COVID world we are living in since I feel like I’m not moving at all, except in circles while we wait for the world to calm itself down.  So of those choices, I guess I’ll move onMove on as in taking one day at a time and moving forward despite all that is going on around us.

3. What have you been doing to make yourself move (aka stay fit-active) during these strange times? When this all began I spent a ton of time outside – we literally had most of the summer projects done during the spring  which included new garden beds, flowers, pruning and pressure washing all the concrete surfaces.

4. This week’s calendar includes celebrations for the following foods- National Coffee Milkshake Day (Sunday), National Creme Brûlée Day (Monday), National Milk Chocolate Day (Tuesday), National Chicken Wing Day (Wednesday), National Lasagne Day (Wednesday), National Cheesecake Day (Thursday), and National Avocado Day (Friday)
Which one on the list would you be most inclined to celebrate? I would definitely celebrate Milk Chocolate Day, Chicken Wing Day, Lasagna Day, Cheesecake Day  and Avocado Day.

Which would you be most inclined to skip? I would skip Coffee Milkshake Day and Creme Brulee Day – not a fan of either one.

5. Next week’s Hodgepodge lands in August! I know!! Raise your hand if you feel like July flew by in the blink of an eye? Now bid farewell to your July acrostic style.

Bright and Cheery,
Yet dismal and dreary,
Every day starts a new
Just as it’s supposed to.
Until we again realize,
Life goes on and on
Yielding both sadness and happiness.

6.  Insert your own random thought here. I have to say that I truly have no random thoughts today. HA HA 😀

TUESDAY 4

IT’S TIME FOR TUESDAY 4 hosted at TUESDAY 4. This week’s questions seem a bit random, but I’ll try for answers that make some sense.

1. What kind of restaurants do you enjoy most and why? Do you have a favorite? This is a tough question these days amid the horrors of COVID19!  I LOVE a lot of different food and restaurants, but have been spending my money mainly on local mom and pop places to help them out. Hubby and I tended to go out to lunch more often than not before, whereas now we order it and then pick it up to eat at home. We do have a favorite old historic pub that makes tremendous sandwiches.

2. Do you have a favorite cartoon from film, news or comic book? Not really!

3. Do you belong to any clubs or societies or organizations? We’re military and hubby is a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, 82nd Airborne Association… I’ve been on the auxiliary of several and participated in the clubs at many levels like writing their newsletters, etc…  I was also a Girl Scout Leader for several years.

4. The internet is filled with ads. Are there any ads that you enjoy seeing or hate to see?  Honestly I HATE most ads – I find most of them insulting to our intelligence.  Now if they make them positive, add a golden retriever or a cute kid that makes me smile, I’ll watch.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 31 of 2020

Thank GOOD MORNING sweet friends.  I hope you all had a GREAT week and relaxing weekend. I’m getting settled back in from our trip. I know the world is still crazy and personally I’m trying to avoid it as much as possible due to my own health concerns, but it, the world and all its complications, has a way of finding us no matter what.  The situation with hubby’s sister is becoming more and more complex and sadly requires us to travel again next week.  Keep us in your prayers that this whole situation settles itself fairly quickly and calmly.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING We’re having a serious hot spell here!  It’s fairly unusual to see triple digits, but they’re here!  Fortunately it’s only a day or 2 until it’s back into the 80’s.  So today is cutoffs, a t-shirt and probably barefoot all day except to go out to the garden and then it’s flip flops.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV There is not much on the TV or DVR! A couple of cooking shows, A Svengoolie and a race or two to watch.  We are also watching THE LAST KINGDOM on Netflix. We watched a couple RedBox movies over the weekend.

I’M READING I need to get back to reading regularly.  My intentions are good of an evening, but I seem to fall asleep before I get 2 pages in… I didn’t get much reading done as I thought I would while we ere traveling so I’m just starting The Book of Lost Friends and  Hurricane Season by Lauren Denton. I’ve also loaded my kindle with a couple more in hopes of some down time to more reading while we’re gone this time in hopes of more reading time.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA We went to feed the peacocks all the old stale snacks from our trip and were rewarded with a bunch of babies!  I had never seen peacock babies here before – they were so sweet! It’s also feather losing season – they were everywhere!

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV Whatever is on the DVR.  We also started The Last Kingdom while we were at our friend’s house and will finish that series.  We also saw Mr. Right, MY SPY with Dave Bautista and The Old Guard.

I’M READING I didn’t get much reading done as I thought I would while we ere traveling so I’m just starting The Book of Lost Friends and  Hurricane Season by Lauren Denton. I’ve also loaded my kindle with a couple more in hopes of some down time to more reading while we’re gone.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA I still have a TON of photos to sort through and edit, but here are a few of my favorites from this week.  ALL of our “sight seeing” was done responsibly in the wild and away from people.  We actually interacted with very few people choosing activities in nature or self guided.  The first photo is from the historic OLD Idaho Penitentiary, a self guided tour.  The next was from an area in Lowman, Idaho where the 1989 Firestorm ravished the landscape.   And the last picture is a neat old homestead barn.

ON MY MIND We’re still dealing with the situation with hubby’s sister and his father passing. We continue to pray things work themselves out, but are also quite realistic that there will need to be some intervening to make it happen.

This trip has also helped us make some determinations about our future project. And while it was a strange time to travel doing so during the pandemic has given us an idea of how people are dealing with it in other places.  All in all most people have been respectful and masked up, but those that haven’t have been quite odd and we steered a wide berth around them.  One of the oddest was a young mother of 4 very young children who had obviously just been through cancer and not one of the 6 people in the family was masking or social distancing.  The other odd one was a man wearing a t-shirt about supporting nurses, but was also not social distancing from others nor wearing a mask.  Masks were mandatory everywhere we were, but not many businesses were enforcing them.  We chose to support the businesses that were for our safety as well as their employees.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA We are still traveling and I have many photos to still edit, but here are a few that are ready and the link to my Instagram photos which I am doing daily while we’re on this trek is on the right side bar or on the bottom of the page.  We once lived in a town that ended in “FALLS” only to find out the falls had been converted years before we moved there to a power plant with no more falls.  So now when we go places that end in “FALLS” we always check to make sure there really are falls to see.

NATIONAL SECRET KEEPING DAY ~ WEDNESDAY HODGEPODGE – VOL. 376

It’s time for Wednesday Hodgepodge over at This Side of the Pond.

1 The Hodgepodge lands this year on National Secret Keeping Day…on a scale of 1-10 (with 1 being I’m a blabbermouth and 10 being I’m a vault) how good are you at keeping secrets? Of the following nine jobs listed for people who can keep a secret-cybersecurity worker, executive assistant, housekeeper, lawyer, nuclear plant technician, physician, private investigator, psychologist, security guard, which one most interests you and why?

This is an interesting question to say the least!  At one point I was an executive assistant and very good at the job and keeping things quiet when they needed to be.  I have also kept MANY secrets for people over the years.  I’m still keeping some for my cousin even after 22 years, BUT I am a BIG believer in NOT keeping secrets as a general rule.  I do discern between whether it is mine to tell or needs to be told by someone else as in my cousin’s case 😀  But, of these jobs if I were to pick the one that most interests me it would probably be a psychologist.  I really wonder what makes people tick! And what better way to figure that out than by hearing their secrets.

2 What’s the secret of life (or one of them anyway)?

Another thought pondering question.  For me, it would be NOT TO SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF and to remember that IT’S ALL SMALL STUFF.  Once something has happened, you cannot go backwards and undo it, so it is important what you do to learn from it and move forward.  IT IS WHAT IT IS and life goes on.  STAY POSITIVE!

3 Off the record, best-kept secret, a fly on the wall, top secret, my lips are sealed, secret shopper, as quiet as a mouse, poker face, spill the beans, open secret, bite your tongue…which secret idiom can you best relate to right now? Explain.

Right now, BITE YOUR TONGUE works for me.  We’re going through some things with hubby’s little sister and the less I say the better.

4 Spill here the secret ingredient in one of your favorite recipes?

QUALITY is the secret ingredient whether it’s cinnamon, honey or vinegar…  There is a difference in the brands.  Find the QUALITY one with the least amount of preservatives or additives and the most natural, flavorful taste and you have a winner.  The old adage, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR is ever so true when it comes to QUALITY ingredients.

5 My mama celebrates a big birthday tomorrow (Wednesday).  Share a favorite quote, song lyric, saying, or verse of scripture that will add some sunshine to her day (ours too!)

DON’T JUST COUNT YOUR YEARS, MAKE YOUR YEARS COUNT! ~GEORGE MEREDITH
