I hope y’all had a GREAT week. Mine was spent traveling. All and all it has been a good trip. Day 1 and 2 surprised us with cold and snow, but in a good way. We have seen and waited in a ton of road construction making it seem A LOT longer!

This whole trip was to search for houses for our next and hopefully final project. We still have many to look at, but have looked at 4 dozen so far. Of those we’ve narrowed it down to 6 or so we’re interested in and definitely ruled OUT several neighborhoods all together. We want a project house, but don’t have enough money to gentrify an entire neighborhood so are being picky for this next project. We have another 10 or so to see today.

We have a niece, her fiance’, her daughter and her brother, our nephew that recently moved to this area and were able to meet up with them and spend some great family time yesterday. 😀 We have 2 more days to finish investigating before we begin the trip home. We wish we had a bit more time here to meet up with blog friends and other relatives, but schedules are being dictated by medical appointments. We will be able to meet up with some old friends and our niece in California along the way before spending promised time with hubby’s sister on our way home.

The weather will vary a lot for us this week from starting with the low 80’s down to the 50’s by the time we end our travels at sis in law’s. Night time lows will also vary from 50’s to 30’s.

Hot water and cherry vanilla yogurt. I can’t wait for my appointment with the chronic care manager. I’m STILL waiting for the gastroenterologist to get my meter handled, but his office is still trying to figure that out. Every time I call I get a new person that promises to follow through and yet it’s now the 18th! My original appointment was the 24th of last month and there is no sign of completion yet. I had another middle of the night (1:30 AM) reactive hypoglycemic episode last night that was soooooooo scary and completely avoidable if I had been wearing the monitor! What if I hadn’t woken up? Fortunately/(unfortunately) I start sweating and my heart starts sweating when it drops that low and trying to raise it before it gets any lower  and I pass out risks an opposite and equally unpleasant reaction of dumping syndrome that also makes my heart race, sweating and pure discomfort!

THIS WEEK’S LIST
  • HOUSE HUNTING

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • WHATEVER WE CAN FIND IN HOTEL ROOMS. WE’LL CATCH UP ON THE DVR WHEN WE GET HOME.

Listening to Jana DeLeon’s Miss Fortune books on Audible.

There were so many… but this one of the snow in Reno  midafternoon day one of the trip is a true favorite.

We’re leaving on our road trip today (FINALLY) so I’ll make this fairly short and sweet. I hope you have all had a productive week and quiet weekend full of family and fun.

I’m laughing at this category today. The weather has been changing so much all over the country in just the past couple days. I packed for the trip and then repacked a second time before finally deciding on a multi-layered pack that allows for multiple weather pattern changes. Here this morning it’s raining and cool, but we’ll probably see some cooler temperatures and maybe even a bit of snow or at least a frost tonight when the low will be 27°. LOL tomorrow though we’ll be in Las Vegas by the end of the day so are planning for a bit warmer in the 70’s.

Hot water and a baby food squeeze on the go.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • Whatever we see along the way 😀 We’ll catch up with the DVR when we return.

I’m reading Jana DeLeon’s Swamp Sweets, book #21 in the Miss Fortune series. Hubby and I will continue to listen to the books from the beginning on audible while we travel the next few weeks.

I went to a painting party last Wednesday for a Halloween painting that’s growing on me and I will definitely be doing some updates on, but I’m really looking forward to the Christmas cookie exchange painting party that my girlfriend is putting together. She’s thinking about maybe doing this one.

I did sign up for this cute gnome in December also.

The Eagles will be having a bake sale while we’re gone (I originally offered to bake for it when we were supposed to go on this trip months ago and thought we’d be here for the sale) so I did all my baking this weekend and prepared them for the freezer. This way they can do as they please for the sale. I made 3 Whiskey Currant Pineapple Carrot cakes, a Pumpkin Spice Dump Cake and a Pumpkin Butter Pecan Dump Cake. Needless to say I ran out of time for much picture taking this week, but hope to make up for it on the trip. 😀

HAPPY HOMEMAKER MONDAY with MENU PLANS & MENU LINKS week 41 of 2021

Oh my gosh, can you believe it’s October? It’s only 82 days until Christmas!

I’m rolling with the punches! The chronic care specialists office manager called me last week and apologized for how things went down and set me up for 4 months (November-March) worth of appointments to see if they can help also with my medical issues. I’ll take all the ideas and help I can get!

The new washer arrived on Tuesday and I’m proud to say that all the laundry is caught up!! This was perfect timing as I switch over to the fall linens and blankets. 😀 And especially as we prepare to leave on our trip next week.

We went bowling last week and I realize that I need to get more “specific” exercise as I still have a few muscles that are really aching. I also received my 3rd COVID vaccine shot and have again gotten a bonus! 🙁 NOT I have another COVID ARM, but I guess it’s a small price to pay for being safe with a compromised immunity.

COVID arm is a delayed hypersensitivity skin reaction that occurs on or around the injection site. COVID arm is thought to be an immune system reaction. Your immune cells are responding to the muscle cells which have absorbed vaccine and basically the immune system thinks is an infection that needs to be fought.
Symptoms of COVID arm include:

  • itching, which can be intense (and boy is it!)
  • a red, discolored rash that can vary in size from the size of a quarter to a very large area (mine is from the shoulder to the elbow)
  • in some instances, the rash may spread to your hands or fingers
swelling (fortunately I don’t have this)
  • pain (YEP)
  • skin feels warm to the touch (YEP)
  • hard lump under your skin where the injection took place (while I don’t have a “lump” the whole affected area is “FIRM”

It’s official. Autumn is here. It lasted the WHOLE week so I now trust in it 😀 We’ve had enough rain that the pond is beginning to fill and make the ducks and geese happy. We’re forecasted to be in the low 70’s and high 60’s all week so I’m a HAPPY camper. I’ve pulled out my favorite levis, cozy socks, denim jelly pops with tanks and coordinating over shirts for layering.

Hot water and peach yogurt for me this morning.

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I need to do a couple loads of laundry and vacuum. In November after we return from our trip we will be doing a DEEP CLEAN of the upper ledges in the living room, lighting globes and ceiling fans before having the carpets cleaned.
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I have a VERY small list this week because we are preparing to leave on our trip. It is a busy week though. I have a hair appointment, a pedicure and need to get the oil changed on the car and the tires rotated as well as have the battery checked. Hubby has a doctor appointment and needs a haircut too.
  • PAPERWORK & PHONE CALLS I have a couple things to get accomplished before we leave and am still trying to get answers from the new doctor about my new meter.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING All done for now until November when we return.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • NETFLIX Midnight Mass, Virgin River
  • DISNEY+ Turner and Hooch
  • CABLE The New Season is in full swing! Most of the old favorites are back and a couple new ones too. Unfortunately many of my favorite comedies have been cancelled. 🙁 NCIS, NCIS HAWAII I’m not sure about this one yet and I miss New Orleans already, BULL, THE GOOD DOCTOR, THE RESIDENT, NEW AMSTERDAM, NCIS LA, FBI, FBI MOST WANTED, FBI INTERNATIONAL, MAGNUM PI, BLUE BLOODS, SWAT, CHICAGO MED, CHICAGO FIRE, CHICAGO PD, YOUNG SHELDON, GHOSTS

I need to set up a reading list for our trip and the audible series that we are listening to when we travel. The audible series, Miss Fortune by Jana Deleon, is a funny, cozy sometimes comical mystery with a hint of romance series of books I had already read, but are a fun read so even hubby is enjoying listening to them and I don’t mind hearing them this time around.

I didn’t take too many pictures this week, but I LOVE this #Metal Art dragon we go by from time to time.

During winter months there are fewer flowers and other sources of food for the bees. Water is also scarce and so many bees drown as they try and drink from swimming pools. Grate an apple and add some water in a bowl. The bees will be able to get the sugars from the fruit and drink the water and not drown as they can stand on the fruit pieces. Our bee populations are threatened, let’s give them all the support we can.

I hope you are all doing well as we head into this first week of fall! I’m so excited! We did get our rain over the weekend and it was splendid, but seriously only a drop in the bucket compared to what we need!!

It took 583 days, but I received the most precious gift yesterday!! Munchkin hugs!! I’d missed those sooooooo verrrrrry much! I can’t believe how much they had grown!!! 😀

We were supposed to be getting some cooler weather with this storm that just passed and we did, but for some reason we’re returning to a warmer week to welcome in fall. I’m hoping it’s just one of those times when the high will happen for just an hour a day since the lows are pretty good. Unfortunately, there is no more rain for this week.

The good news I FINALLY got one of my referrals to one of the specialists I need. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to eat some different things for breakfast, but for today it’s some lovely hot water and peach yogurt for breakfast!

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • LAUNDRY & CLEANING I THINK WE HAVE A WINNER! That is if all goes as planned! Whirlpool is supposed to be here a week from tomorrow to install the new replacement machine. I’ll then have to play catch up, but I think last Friday was the last expensive trip to the laundromat! 😀
  • GROCERIES & ERRANDS I have a pedicure appointment tomorrow and will do a few errands and pick up a few groceries at that time. I have the first appointment with one of the specialists on Friday.
  • PAPERWORK & PHONE CALLS I’ve been making some headway, but there always seems to be something that replaces whatever I’ve crossed off my list.
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING I have the menu planned until we leave in a few weeks. And then I’ll start a new plan for cooler weather meals when we get home in November. I am going to try a butcher delivery service in November also.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • NETFLIX Virgin River, Money Heist, Walking Dead
  • DISNEY+ TURNER & HOOCH
  • DISCOVERY + MYSTERIES of the Abandoned
  • CABLE – We watched a cheesy OLD movie MEN at WORK on the day it rained and the original DRACULA from 1931, NFL, NASCAR, HALLOWEEN WARS, HALLOWEEN BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP, HALLOWEEN BIG BAKE, GIRL MEETS FARM, GUY’S GROCERY GAMES AND THE FALL SEASON SHOWS BEGIN TODAY!

I’m between reads and trying to catch up on a few magazines while I decide what to read next.

We did get to take a walk between rounds of the storm on Saturday. It was near dusk so I was able to capture this cool shot. And then this absolutely GORGEOUS sunset last night. These are both unedited photos. I can’t believe how lucky I was to happen into them both.

This little turtle appeared a bit stranded as the pond is drying up 🙁 he wasn’t, but he was there for so long we figured he was waiting for more water so he didn’t have to slug through the mud. There is only a couple inches of water in the pond that just 18 months ago was threatening to run over the road.

But my favorite from the week is Olivia and Rizzo! I’ve really missed that smile!  I should have gotten all 3 munchkins to show how much they’ve grown!!

I know this says hello weekend, but I wish it said hello fall!!! I’m so ready!

BROCCOLI OR CARROTS?

A friend asked me recently why I don’t list my entire meal on my menu plan.  I told her it was because I never know what I will be serving with it until I go to the store.  She was surprised and shocked I went to the store more than once a week.  Since I only cook from scratch, including the sides and vegetables, I shop 2-3 times a week so I am using the freshest of produce.  I don’t want to list broccoli as my vegetable and then not like the way it looks at the market and switch to carrots.

So my question is, how often do you grocery shop?

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 40 of 2020

GOOD MORNING everyone!  I hope you have had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.  Can you believe we’re at the end of September already?  I hate to mention it, but that means Christmas is only 88 days away!  What a surreal year 2020 has been! I’m jumping right in as we are leaving in a few minutes for the all day trek to my favorite SIL’s house! 😀

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE, WHAT I’M WEARING & HOW I’M FEELING THIS MORNING The weather is great here and supposed to be even better as we’re headed back down to SIL’s house for another visit to the lawyer this week so I’m dressed for traveling – comfy jeans, hoodie and favorite pops. 😀

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE Ice Tea and baby food since we’re on the road

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • TRIP TO SIL’S HOUSE FOR A VISIT WITH THE TRUST LAWYER in hope of having some definitive answers to the multitude of questions that keep multiplying because of younger SIL’S lack of forthcoming information.
WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
GOOD THING THESE THINGS ARE PORTABLE THESE DAYS 😀
  • NETFLIX – I finished season Hart of Dixie, On season 1 of Cobra Kai
  • PRIME – Eureka season 4
  • HULU – 11-22-63
  • CRACKLE – My Favorite Martian with Bill Bixby and Ray Walston – I remember watching some reruns as a kid 😀
  • IMDb – nothing last week
  • CABLE – NASCAR (trucks, Xfinity and CUP series) – normally it would be ALL football and lots of it, but hubby is fed up with all the political aspects and is just not watching it much. We did see the Chargers and Chiefs as well as the Patriots and Seahawks last night.

I’M READING Ava Miles Merriam’s series book #6 A BREATH OF JASMINE, but am almost finished and have downloaded a couple more for the road.  Up next is GATORS AND GARTERS by Jana Deleon Book #18 in her Miss Fortune series followed by QUINN VALLEY RANCH trilogy by Pamela Kelley.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA Well, I did it!  I took the plunge into hope that 2021 is worth planning for!  I bought a 2021 planner! 😀

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Oh my, can you believe it’s the first day of 2020?  HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU!  I cannot believe how fast time goes, not just this past year, but this past decade! We are 20% done with a century that seemed unimaginable when I was a girl! My plan is to go simpler in ALL things. I started awhile back and have even donated MANY Christmas decorations and such already. I LOVE streamlining my life.

This was a tough year, but not as tough as many have been.  And I’m so blessed to still be here and more so to actually realize that.  Many say it was a bad year and I agree there were MANY ups and downs, but you know what?  That’s life!  It’s NEVER ALWAYS up or always down and our ability to ride this roller coaster we call life with a smile on our face is what makes it worth living – knowing there is ALWAYS good to come our way.

In 2020 my wish is to accomplish my list of goals, which is NOT a resolutions list, but a realistic list of things that have needed done in my life to uncomplicate it and make it more enjoyable.  Many of the things on that list just happen to mean doing things simpler than I’ve done them before 😀  My wish is that others realize that simple IS BETTER also.  Our world has become so unnecessarily complicated!  It’s time we uncomplicate it and get back to the JOY of living it!

Every year I plan on getting more organized than the last.  😀 That said, I’m actually a fairly well organized person, a list maker and love things clean, but sometimes I do give in to the clutter when I’m not feeling great.  The one thing I do religiously though is meal plan.

To start the year off right I sat down and made my January meal plan and even part of February.  I organized it right down to the cookbooks I’m referencing during the month for new experimental recipes and even color coded them for ease of use.  Thursdays are traditionally my C.O.R.N. (clean out refrigerator nights) because it’s also trash night, so the timing is perfect!  If I happen to miss a meal I will simply add it to an upcoming month in an attempt to clean out all my recipe scraps and notes.  My ultimate goal in 2020, at least for meal planning, is to have a WORKING menu planner full of notes that make an easy reference for future meals.

HOW THE DATE FOR EASTER IS DECIDED

Easter is going to be late this year! Do you ever wonder how the date is decided? Well, let me tell you what I found with a little research.

Unlike Christmas, the date of Easter Sunday changes every year and can fall anytime between March 22nd and April 25th.  Why is this you ask?

Because Easter Sunday is decided by complex calculations based on the moon.  Early on in Christianity different churches used different methods.  This led to disagreements that still exist today in some cultures.

Easter celebrates the death and resurrection of Jesus which according to the Bible happened around the same time as Jewish Passover.  Passover typically begins the night of the first FULL moon AFTER the spring equinox (usually March 20th or 21st) EXCEPT in months when it is the SECOND full moon.  This most recently occurred in 2016.  The FULL moon can vary in each time zone so the Church calculates Easter from the 14th day of the ecclesiastic lunar month which is known as the paschal full moon.  Easter is the Sunday that follows the paschal full moon that falls on or after the equinox so can be from 1-7 days later.

In 1818 the full moon fell on the equinox, Saturday March 21, so Easter was the next day, March 22. Easter will not be this early again until the year 2285.  The earliest recent Easter was March 23 in 2008.  In 1943 a full moon fell on March 20, just before the equinox, so the paschal full moon was the next one on April 18 which was a Sunday so Easter was seven days later on April 25. It will not be this late again until 2038. The latest recent Easter was April 23 in the year 2000.

This year Good Friday will be April 19th and Easter Sunday will be April 21st.   You can find a table for upcoming Easter Sundays here.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 47 of 2018

GOOD MORNING everyone. I hope your weekend was GREAT!  Ours was quiet, productive and fun too.  We watched ALL the end of season NASCAR championship races as well as some football.  We had lunch at one of our favorite taverns.  Hubby finished re”building” my desk and cleaning it up while I finished the canning and some gift wrapping.

I’m off to literally do the LAST minute Thanksgiving shopping and go with hubby to an appointment and then we’re coming home to stay through the crazy upcoming weekend.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING – It’s gray and foggy and not yet 40 this morning.  Today and tomorrow are supposed to warm up to mid 50’s with partly sunny skies.  After that there is a cold front due to move in leaving us with all out RAIN and temperatures in the 40’s for Thanksgiving.  I’m wearing Levis with a cozy purple turtleneck an coordinating flannel shirt.

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE – Green tea, strawberry yogurt with honey almond granola and wild blueberries

CRAFTS / PROJECTS – Trying to finish up the last of some homemade gifts

ON MY MIND / THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME HAPPY / FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA – I completed my jams and butters and even got them decorated so they are ready for wrapping. I also got a few bottles of flavored vanilla prepped.  And yes, 2019 is what they say bcause they won’t actually be ready for use until mid January.  I’ll post that recipe later this week.

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 19 of 2018

GOOD MORNING sweet ladies. It’s been a busy week around here and I’m still struggling with energy issues so am not getting as much done as I want AND/OR need to which is leaving me frustrated. My TO DO list is growing, but at least there will be a reward at the other end of this hassle.  I’m really looking forward to the time to rehab with the gym and pool in hopes that my elusive energy and strength return in earnest.

I’m having a few blog issues too that are baffling my server guy so I’m a bit frustrated every time I see that “fatal error” on my side bar. I’m hoping he figures it out soon and I can have a bit easier way of blogging. Right now I have to log in, password and all EVERY time – so frustrating.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARINGThe sun is shining, but there is no breeze blowing. It’s official, summer is here! 90’s all week with an ever increasing humidity equals = BOY AM I GLAD we’re leaving 😀

I’m wearing Levi’s capris with my favorite ovarian cancer awareness t-shirt and flip flops.  And it is definitely time to start automatically putting this mop of hair in a ponytail first thing in the morning.

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE – Peach protein shake and green tea

SUCCESSFUL RECIPE LINKS FROM LAST WEEK

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 18 of 2018

Good morning everyone. I cannot believe it’s Monday again. Last week just completely sped by! I’ve barely gotten last week’s visits in before it was time to write today’s post! I promise to be better this week about visiting! 😀  This will be another busy week, but I hope you are all having slower paced and enjoyable weeks.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE – we are no longer blessed with the unseasonally cool and nice weather we have had.  I guess spring is over 🙁  Starting this week we have seriously higher humidity and temperatures will be in the high 80’s all week.

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE – Cheerios, Small banana & Green tea

ON MY MIND / THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME HAPPY – I’m trying really hard to live a positive life and not get too worked up over what is really out of my control.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA – I’m working on a post for our trip to the alligator park that will be up in a day or two, but I love this picture of a sleepy alligator that was yawning and couldn’t be bothered with the activity around him.
