HAPPY HOMEMAKER week 41 of 2020

GOOD MORNING I’ll make this quick as we’re back on the road in a bit to our next stop… I hope you’ve all had a great weekend and are ready for this first full week of October.

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up
with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & HOW I’M FEELING THIS MORNING We still don’t have any specific answers to why we made this trip to begin with, but are hoping to yet this week. In the meantime we are taking a little side trip to see family before they move cross country in a few weeks.

It’s finally cooled down to normal here where we are leaving and the smoke is dissipating, but we’re traveling farther south and won’t be able to enjoy it 🙁 Where we’re headed is having an unseasonable high and will be in the mid to high 80’s 🙁

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE Hot water and yogurt

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • PAPERWORK & PHONE CALLS
  • RECIPE RESEARCH & MENU PLANNING
WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
  • While we were at SIL’s we watched a lot of what she had on tape – CANNONBALL, WIPEOUT and several movies; INHERITANCE, DESCENDANTS, MIB, THE STATION AGENT, ANOTHER WORLD, CONTAGION

I’M READING

  • TIN GOD a Delta Crossroads series by Stacey Green

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA The hazy smoke from the GLASS fire was so bad I didn’t get many pictures. The few I got are on IG. I did get this picture of a picture that I fell in love with 😀

INSPIRATIONAL There is SOOOOO SOOOOO much going on in the world around us that needs our ongoing and daily prayer, but I’m trying to approach it all from a positive stance:

GOOD MORNING everyone!  I hope you have had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.  Can you believe we’re at the end of September already?  I hate to mention it, but that means Christmas is only 88 days away!  What a surreal year 2020 has been! I’m jumping right in as we are leaving in a few minutes for the all day trek to my favorite SIL’s house! 😀

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE, WHAT I’M WEARING & HOW I’M FEELING THIS MORNING The weather is great here and supposed to be even better as we’re headed back down to SIL’s house for another visit to the lawyer this week so I’m dressed for traveling – comfy jeans, hoodie and favorite pops. 😀

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE Ice Tea and baby food since we’re on the road

THIS WEEK’S TO DO LIST, PROJECTS & APPOINTMENTS
  • TRIP TO SIL’S HOUSE FOR A VISIT WITH THE TRUST LAWYER in hope of having some definitive answers to the multitude of questions that keep multiplying because of younger SIL’S lack of forthcoming information.
WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV
GOOD THING THESE THINGS ARE PORTABLE THESE DAYS 😀
  • NETFLIX – I finished season Hart of Dixie, On season 1 of Cobra Kai
  • PRIME – Eureka season 4
  • HULU – 11-22-63
  • CRACKLE – My Favorite Martian with Bill Bixby and Ray Walston – I remember watching some reruns as a kid 😀
  • IMDb – nothing last week
  • CABLE – NASCAR (trucks, Xfinity and CUP series) – normally it would be ALL football and lots of it, but hubby is fed up with all the political aspects and is just not watching it much. We did see the Chargers and Chiefs as well as the Patriots and Seahawks last night.

I’M READING Ava Miles Merriam’s series book #6 A BREATH OF JASMINE, but am almost finished and have downloaded a couple more for the road.  Up next is GATORS AND GARTERS by Jana Deleon Book #18 in her Miss Fortune series followed by QUINN VALLEY RANCH trilogy by Pamela Kelley.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA Well, I did it!  I took the plunge into hope that 2021 is worth planning for!  I bought a 2021 planner! 😀

GOOD MORNING I hope everyone had a wonderful last week and is ready to work on this one – the last FULL one of September!  Can you believe that already? It’s time to start thinking about the holidays. My neighbor put up really tacky Halloween lights (that only accentuate the fact that they don’t care for their yard very well) over the weekend that really made me think about what this holiday season amid a pandemic will be like.  I know, strange correlation, but things will be so different for kids at Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas parties will be smaller, etc…

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE, WHAT I’M WEARING & HOW I’M FEELING THIS MORNING HA HA 😀 It seems like I have a uniform – levis and a comfy shirt.

I’m hopeful that the smoke and ash are in the past and that the rain we had last week as well as what is predicted this week is truly aiding the fire containment – it is now 38% contained and appears to be burning over itself as it is holding steady around 133,000 acres. Hopefully the other fires are receiving the same aid.

I’m also a bit on edge with having to deal with hubby’s little sis and this probate/trust/house sale. Sure glad we hired a lawyer, but I still have to coordinate for hubby and his other 2 sisters.  Despite all the prayers that little sis would be above board and reasonable, she is still the same selfish person and is trying to make it all about her versus doing what the trust says or what is right – such a sad situation. 🙁 I just pray this next lawyer visit is more productive no matter what we have to do to move things forward.

  • PRIME – Eureka season 3
  • HULU – 11-22-63
  • CRACKLE – My Favorite Martian with Bill Bixby and Ray Walston – I remember watching some reruns as a kid 😀

  • Ava Miles Merriam’s series book #6 A BREATH OF JASMINE

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA

I can’t actually say that this Sunrise is a “favorite” because of the circumstances that allowed it, but it is one of the only pictures I took last week besides the Peacock farm visit.

We went to feed them stale bread and crackers one day.  The turkeys and squirrels were around in abundance too. The caretaker said no one had been to visit so they were all glad we were there. The ash was so thick! She said that these butterflies were there to lick the salt from the fallen ash – so weird! There were hundreds of them on the ground all around the park.

The spider webs have been so weird and appearing everywhere since the fire.  The ash makes them look sooooooo eerie!

HAPPY HOMEMAKER & MENU PLAN MONDAY week 38 of 2020

GOOD MORNING everyone. I hope you’ve all had a GREAT weekend. It’s been a strange week around here with the sad and horrific fires creating so much loss and devastation in our state. Many places have had to shut down again or go to much reduced hours of operation due to the smoke, ash and many of their employees being evacuated. After several days of 0% containment on our local fire, it appears they are getting a “handle” on it. It’s now at 10%. Unfortunately, resources are stretched thin and many have been displaced or lost everything 🙁 I am impressed with the local community and how they have come together to donate and offer to help wherever necessary. Some donation centers are so full they are directing people to other locations.

Personally, our biggest issue is the dense smoke and ash making an already difficult year more difficult. The orange skies, red sun and dense fog like smoke make it seem like an entirely different time of year than the end of summer 🙁 Hubby took down the large filter from the air conditioning vent for me to wash last night and I was surprised by how much had accumulated. We’re going to check the air filters in the cars too!

It’s my birthday week so I’m trying to maintain a positive attitude 🙂 and go about getting things done though not being able to be outside will change that a bit this week.

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up
with our host, Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING While I’m happy the temperatures are lower than expected and even originally predicted, I’m sad for the reason – the intense thick smoke layer blocking out the sun! 🙁 As of last update our “local” fire has burned 122,000 acres and is only 10% contained so the air quality is not likely to improve much this week or next.  They are currently predicting a containment date of September 30th!  🙁 It’s like being in the middle of a non-stop bonfire 24/7. And while we desperately need rain, we do NOT need thunderstorms with lightning! The temperatures predicted are one thing, but reality is another. We haven’t been warmer than 65° in days!

GOOD MORNING dear friends.  I hope everyone had a GREAT weekend and you were able to enjoy this last week of August.  Can you believe tomorrow is the beginning of September?  It’s been 6 months since the world turned upside down! I’m really looking forward to FALL weather, with sweaters, crisp evenings and all things spice 😀

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING Unfortunately, that fall weather I’m craving is going to possibly hide behind an Indian Summer.  We’re hitting high temperatures again this week after last week being absolutely beautiful. I pray they won’t hang around long!

I’M READING Marie Force’s new series MIAMI NIGHTS book #1 How Much I Feel.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA This week was a weird one in pictures.  We did get over to see the Peacocks with some stale bread one day which is always nice, but then hubby noticed a wet spot in the rocks out back that same night.

That’s “supposed” to be a capped sprinkler.  He dug sown a bit and saw a small “fountain” of water that would disappear if he pressed down on it. When he dug down even further he found that the line underneath had never been capped.  So it was like a small hose running for 20 minutes a day untended whenever the sprinklers were running.

And then there is this adorable Johnny Jump Up – they just refuse to give up trying to grow in the weirdest places.

I’M READING Marie Force’s new series MIAMI NIGHTS book #1 How Much I Feel.  I finished Gill Paul’s ANOTHER WOMAN’S HUSBAND while we were traveling and really enjoyed it.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA I have an affinity for old graveyards.  This is one of my favorites in a quaint little town we went through on our way back from my SIL’s house.  I love how it creeps its way up the hillside with odd paths and stairs here and there. We hadn’t been there in a LONG LONG time.  I’m also aware how ironic putting my blog name on a cemetery photos is 😀

GOOD MORNING I can’t get Willie Nelson out of my head! On The Road Again is playing over and over as we trek back to SIL’s house for an important meeting…

I hope you all had a GREAT weekend.  Since we had to cancel our anniversary trip later this month to make this trip instead, we left a little early to make a stop at the Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay. I do find it ironic though that you cannot go ANYWHERE and have it truly relaxing when you know there is a LIVE webcam on the area.  SIGH, I do suppose that keeps us safer though. At least there was serious social distancing going on.

We had planned to spend the day and not get to SIL’s until today, but changed our mind when it was 99° and too people so we powered through to finish the trek instead and arrived last night.  We’ll find something fun and relaxing to do on the way home to complete the trip.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING It’s high 80’s at home and higher yet where we wereyesterday, but SIL’s house is in the high 60’s.  I’m in love! 😀

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE Not sure yet – traveling is still really hard for me.

Nothing this week as we deal with out of town issues.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV Absolutely nothing except what will record while we are gone.

I’M READING I finally finished Hurricane Season by Lauren Denton and loved it.  I’m also finally beginning Lost Friends.  I did read part of the Marie Force’s Green Mountain Vermont series, All My Lovin’ in the middle of those.

Thank GOOD MORNING sweet friends.  I hope you all had a GREAT week and relaxing weekend. I’m getting settled back in from our trip. I know the world is still crazy and personally I’m trying to avoid it as much as possible due to my own health concerns, but it, the world and all its complications, has a way of finding us no matter what.  The situation with hubby’s sister is becoming more and more complex and sadly requires us to travel again next week.  Keep us in your prayers that this whole situation settles itself fairly quickly and calmly.

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING We’re having a serious hot spell here!  It’s fairly unusual to see triple digits, but they’re here!  Fortunately it’s only a day or 2 until it’s back into the 80’s.  So today is cutoffs, a t-shirt and probably barefoot all day except to go out to the garden and then it’s flip flops.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV There is not much on the TV or DVR! A couple of cooking shows, A Svengoolie and a race or two to watch.  We are also watching THE LAST KINGDOM on Netflix. We watched a couple RedBox movies over the weekend.

I’M READING I need to get back to reading regularly.  My intentions are good of an evening, but I seem to fall asleep before I get 2 pages in… I didn’t get much reading done as I thought I would while we ere traveling so I’m just starting The Book of Lost Friends and  Hurricane Season by Lauren Denton. I’ve also loaded my kindle with a couple more in hopes of some down time to more reading while we’re gone this time in hopes of more reading time.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA We went to feed the peacocks all the old stale snacks from our trip and were rewarded with a bunch of babies!  I had never seen peacock babies here before – they were so sweet! It’s also feather losing season – they were everywhere!

Be sure to join us for Happy Homemaker Monday and link up

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW & THE WEATHER OUTSIDE & WHAT I’M WEARING We’re still traveling, but will be home later today.  Not sure what the weather is at home, but it’s pleasant here in the high 70’s.  I’m wearing Levi’s and lightweight blouse and my favorite Skecher’s sandals.

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE Not sure yet, but it will be light.

WHAT’S ON THE DVR/TV Whatever is on the DVR.  We also started The Last Kingdom while we were at our friend’s house and will finish that series.  We also saw Mr. Right, MY SPY with Dave Bautista and The Old Guard.

I’M READING I didn’t get much reading done as I thought I would while we ere traveling so I’m just starting The Book of Lost Friends and  Hurricane Season by Lauren Denton. I’ve also loaded my kindle with a couple more in hopes of some down time to more reading while we’re gone.

FAVORITE PHOTO FROM THE CAMERA I still have a TON of photos to sort through and edit, but here are a few of my favorites from this week.  ALL of our “sight seeing” was done responsibly in the wild and away from people.  We actually interacted with very few people choosing activities in nature or self guided.  The first photo is from the historic OLD Idaho Penitentiary, a self guided tour.  The next was from an area in Lowman, Idaho where the 1989 Firestorm ravished the landscape.   And the last picture is a neat old homestead barn.

ON MY MIND We’re still dealing with the situation with hubby’s sister and his father passing. We continue to pray things work themselves out, but are also quite realistic that there will need to be some intervening to make it happen.

This trip has also helped us make some determinations about our future project. And while it was a strange time to travel doing so during the pandemic has given us an idea of how people are dealing with it in other places.  All in all most people have been respectful and masked up, but those that haven’t have been quite odd and we steered a wide berth around them.  One of the oddest was a young mother of 4 very young children who had obviously just been through cancer and not one of the 6 people in the family was masking or social distancing.  The other odd one was a man wearing a t-shirt about supporting nurses, but was also not social distancing from others nor wearing a mask.  Masks were mandatory everywhere we were, but not many businesses were enforcing them.  We chose to support the businesses that were for our safety as well as their employees.
